MARAUDER SOCCER: TEAMWORK AND EXCELLENCE
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Mitchell Families,
As we enter November, Mitchell High School reflects on recent achievements and looks forward to the opportunities and events that the new month will bring. The end of October was marked by inspiring assemblies, academic milestones, and athletic accomplishments, setting a positive tone for the weeks ahead.
Mitchell High School hosted a school-wide Future Ready event, the Space Foundation Assembly, on Monday, October 27. During this assembly, students engaged in a live conversation with an astronaut, who recounted his personal journey from poverty. Emphasizing that anyone, regardless of background, can achieve success, he noted that our country's opportunities and a good education make this possible. He also described how postsecondary education and space exploration enabled him to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty within his family.
Following this inspirational event, on Wednesday, October 29, twenty selected students participated in the PSAT/NMSQT testing to prepare for college and scholarship opportunities. The National Merit Scholarship Program, a prestigious academic competition for high school students in the United States, recognizes and rewards exceptional performance on the PSAT/NMSQT, which is typically taken during a student's junior year.
Meanwhile, that same day, the 3A Varsity Soccer State Playoffs took place, where the underdog Mitchell team (8-5-2) impressively held the second-seeded Jefferson Academy (10-2-4) scoreless for 58 minutes. However, the Jaguars managed to score three quick goals in the second half, securing their win. Nevertheless, the Marauders achieved their first winning record since 2021 and only their second in the past nine years, making our school community very proud of the team.
In addition to these academic and athletic achievements, this week also marked the start of the Annual Marauder Toy Nation Southeast Area Feeder School Toy Drive, which will run through December 12. Additionally, from October 15 to November 20, parents and guardians are encouraged to complete the 5Essentials Parent Survey. By participating, families help the school understand its culture and climate, guiding improvements that directly impact student success. Research has shown that parental input is linked to higher academic achievement, better attendance, and improved graduation rates. https://survey.5-essentials.org/sd11/survey/parent
Finally, it is important to note that Friday, October 7, is the deadline for the Universal Gradebook Mid-Quarter. The universal gradebook and late homework policy are designed to ensure fairness and consistency for all students, set clear expectations, support academic recovery, and keep teachers and families aligned. These practices at Mitchell High School build trust, promote accountability, and prepare students for success in college, careers, and life beyond high school.
Here's to another great week of engagement and learning. Thank you for your partnership and commitment to Mitchell High School, where We Increase Numbers by believing in our Students-WINS!

PURPOSE AND INTENTION: 5Essentials Parent Survey
PLEASE COMPLETE!!! SURVEY OPEN FROM OCTOBER 15 - NOVEMBER 20
About the 5Essentials System
The 5Essentials framework defines five key supports linked to student success:
• Effective Leaders
• Collaborative Teachers
• Ambitious Instruction
• Supportive Environment
• Involved Families
Schools strong in these essentials show higher student growth, attendance, and engagement.
Why the Parent Survey Matters
The 5Essentials Parent Survey gives families a voice in shaping stronger schools. Your feedback helps identify what’s working well and where schools can grow—supporting better teaching, leadership, and family partnerships.
Schools use the results to guide improvement plans, strengthen communication, and build more supportive learning environments for every student.
Research Impact
Schools strong on at least three of the five essentials are up to ten times more likely to improve student learning. Even small gains in these areas predict better outcomes over time.

¿QUÉ ES EL S.A.C.?
S: Escuela (School), A: Responsabilidad (Accountability), C: Comité (Committee).
