❤️ February Fun- Valentine's/ Friendship Day 2023 ❤️
Each year on or around February 14, the children are invited to exchange Valentine’s Day or Friendship Day cards with their classmates and teachers. Some families call this tradition St. Valentine’s Day and other families call it Friendship Day.
On February 14, each child traditionally brings in a little card with a note of friendship or kind words to give to the other children and teachers in his/her class. These cards can be handmade or store-bought. If you decide to have your child participate in this tradition, please be sure to make one card for every student in the class.
We cannot share food items including candy or sweets. If you would like your child to make cards at school, we can help your child, or we can send home paper and glue if that would be helpful for you to make cards at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions or if you need assistance.
Each classroom teacher will provide you with a list of the children’s names in your child’s class along with the specific instructions for her classroom Valentine’s Day/Friendship Day exchange.
Let us know if you have any questions about the Valentine’s/Friendship Day Tradition.
We will celebrate on Tuesday, February 14. Students and staff are encouraged to wear PINK and RED!
🎨 Curriculum Update 📑
You may hear your child talking about the blue or red zone at home, but what does this mean? Each classroom has learned about the Zones of Regulation, four color coded zones that correlate to different feelings. Children learn to associate their feelings with being in a certain zone. The feelings in each zone are as follows:
- Green Zone: Happy, focused, calm, and proud
- Blue Zone: Sad, tired, bored, and sick
- Yellow Zone: Silly, excited, worried, and frustrated
- Red Zone: Overjoyed/elated, panicked, angry, and terrified
In addition to learning the Zones, each class is learning strategies to help them when they are feeling sad, angry or silly. Each classroom has a set of Tools to Try cards in their Feelings station. These tools include different types of breathing activities, movement activities, meditation strategies and more. When students are in the Feelings station, they can identify how they are feeling and which Zone they are in. They can then choose a Tools to Try card to help themselves feel better or calm down.
Try it at home! Ask your child what zone they are in when you pick them up from school and talk about their feelings towards their day. Here are more resources:
