Welcome Back, Families!

I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable Spring Break, filled with moments to relax, recharge, and spend quality time with loved ones.

The fourth quarter is an important time—full of learning, growth, and celebrations. Whether your student is preparing for state testing, wrapping up projects, or looking ahead to next year, we are here to support them every step of the way.

Let’s finish strong together! Thank you for your continued partnership and for being such an important part of our school community.

Go Lions!

Students of the Week: Celebrating P.R.I.D.E. Students of the Week: Celebrating P.R.I.D.E.

Congratulations to our GLHS Students of the Week for the week of March 24! These outstanding students were recognized for exemplifying our core values of Purpose, Respect, Integrity, Diversity, and Excellence (P.R.I.D.E.) in all they do.

This recognition is part of the A Student Above initiative, proudly sponsored by Jersey Mike’s. Each student has demonstrated what it truly means to live out P.R.I.D.E., making a positive impact on our school community.

Way to go Kira Bailey, Isabelle Flaherty, Landon George, Blair Martinez, Knoelle Smith-Rhynehardt, and Deana Tilahun.

Keep shining!

State Testing Information State Testing Information

Our students will be participating in the annual administration of End-of-Course (EOC) Exams -n more commonly known as "state testing." Participation in taking the EOC Exams is required for graduation by the State of Ohio; moreover, a high enough score on certain exams may also allow students to earn Graduation Seals. Earning Seals is a relatively new graduation requirement, and you can learn more by clicking HERE or by contacting your student's school counselor.

We will be testing students currently enrolled in any of the courses indicated below.

English 10, Biology, US History, and Geometry are predominantly Sophomore classes, while Algebra 1 is traditionally a Freshman course.

Students currently enrolled in these courses have been preparing for these exams and will automatically be signed up to test on the indicated dates.

Additionally, we will be reaching out to individual students who may not be in these classes, but still need to test. Reasons for this might include:

  • the student had been scheduled to take exam previously but, for whatever reason, did not complete it; OR
  • the student did not attain a required score for graduation; OR
  • a higher score on the test would allow the student to earn a Graduation Seal; OR
  • the student has taken a course equivalent through TRECA and still has not sat for this exam; OR
  • the student is new to Ohio or GLHS and no score, or acceptable equivalent, is on file

On 4/9, 4/16, 4/23, and 4/28, GLHS will be running on an adjusted bell schedule linked HERE.

If your student is not taking an EOC Exam, they will not have to report to school until the "Begin Time" associated with the first class period of that day in the afternoon. Please note that transportation will run on its normal schedule on testing days. If a student needs to use school transportation but does not have an EOC exam, a Study Hall will be provided in the Cafeteria until class begins in the afternoon.

Students who don't attend their assigned testing time will be contacted for information regarding makeup testing dates.

Student testing room assignments will be shared closer to the testing date(s) via student email.

If you have any questions about the exam itself, please contact your student's respective content teacher. For any questions about your student's graduation requirements, please contact your student's school counselor (information available at https://glhs.gahannaschools.org/counseling). For any questions about test-day logistics, please contact Mr. Zach Wiard, Assistant Principal & Building Test Coordinator (wiardz@gjps.org).

Senior Photos

Seniors who are interested in replacing their school photos in the yearbook with a photo of their choice may do so. Pictures must be school-appropriate and we encourage students to submit portrait photos as full body shots are fairly hard to see your face in the image boxes. There is no file size requirement as we will adjust them to fit the boxes on the page. Students have until Friday, April 11 to get them in and they can be submitted to gahannayearbook.com by clicking on the Senior page or by emailing as an attachment to yearbook@gjps.org. Please email yearbook@gjps.org if you have any questions or if the due date does not work.

Caps, Gowns & Announcements

Students must wear a cap and gown to participate in the graduation ceremony. If you have not ordered your cap and gown unit, you can still order by calling Herff Jones at (740) 357-2160 or by clicking here, and pay in full with a credit card/debit card. Cap and gown units will be distributed in the main lobby of GLHS on Thursday, April 24 and Friday, April 25 during all lunch periods. They will also be available for purchase by cash or money order during graduation rehearsal on May 23. All sales are final. If you ordered graduation announcements, they will ship directly to your home.

Fines, Fees & Obligations

Seniors are reminded to clear their records of any fines, fees, books, Chromebooks, or supplies owed to the school. Any student still owing any fines, fees, or other school related charges to GLHS will not receive a diploma or a final transcript until their record is cleared. In order for students to receive a diploma at graduation all financial obligations must be taken care of no later than Friday, May 2 at 3:30 PM.
