Summer Garden Volunteers Needed Summer Garden Volunteers Needed

Attention Lesher Community!

Do YOU want fresh produce?? At absolutely no cost?? Then consider becoming a Lesher garden volunteer over the summer! Volunteers sign up for 3-4 day commitments and during that time they water the garden and harvest whatever the garden produces that week. Watering and harvesting takes less than 30 minutes and, depending on the weather, does not need to happen every day! Your commitment could be as little as 1-3 days.

Imagine cooking a meal with fresh vegetables that came from a garden your student helped plant and care for! If you are interested in volunteering this summer, please reach out to Ms. Natalie Giza, the garden steward at ngiza@psdschools.org! I will have more info regarding dates and garden procedures shortly. Thanks for everything you do and for your support in this awesome learning opportunity.

Here is the link to sign up!

Thanks,

Ms. Giza

Lesher's 18th Annual Bike Week! Lesher's 18th Annual Bike Week!

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map Show in original size

Lesher's Bike to School Week was a huge success, despite the iffy Spring weather! Throughout the week (which we extend 2 days to accommodate the snow day and rainy weather), we had over 500 check-ins at the bike racks! 70 people rode their bike EVERY DAY of the week. Besides riding to school, students also had the opportunity to play on bikes before school, during lunch, and during ELO and participate in our "Bike at Home" program. If students rode 3 days throughout the week, they earned their Stranger Things edition Bike Week shirt! Throughout the week, we were also able to pass out raffle prizes donated by JAX Outdoor Gear and Fort Fun. And we even gave away a brand-new bike! This year, our bike went to Metta Mortensen in 6th Grade - congratulations Metta!

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped out, including staff, parents, and NJHS students. We could not have done it without you, and we appreciate you jumping in!

As you move into summer, bike on! Be safe - wear a helmet, be seen, dress for the weather, and plan your route. Fort Collins is an incredibly bike-friendly place to live. If you are looking for a fun bike event, there are free bike races for the next month put on by Sendtown Bike Club for all abilities and age levels. Click here for more information and to register.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Mr. Mayer (bmayer@psdschools.org) or Mr. Van Roekel (rvanroekel@psdschools.org). Thanks, and go biking!

Attention 8th Grade Families! Attention 8th Grade Families!

It is time to submit your 8th grader’s short video for the Video Montage! What is the Video Montage?

The Video Montage is a compilation/mash of action snips (2-9 seconds long) from EVERY 8th grade student and set to music. The video will premiere during 8th grade day on May 26. The entire montage lasts about 12 minutes.

Parameters:

  1. Video snips are short – 2 to 8 seconds in length. Sounds will be overlaid with music.
  2. Videos are recent- from this past year
  3. Students are IN the video (It's okay if they are covered up with sporting equipment or far away) LIVE photos work, but ‘still’ photos do not.

What types of videos are the best? Short, action videos

Ex : dancing, juggling, tumbling, skateboarding, trampoline, playing with a pet, horseback riding, tubing, skiing/snowboarding, dirt biking, mountain biking, zipline, archery, gymnastics, cooking/baking, sewing, making pottery, school sports (basketball, volleyball, wrestling, softball, track, tennis, golf, football, cross-country), club sports (hockey, lacrosse, soccer, etc.), snowmobiling, painting, rock climbing, acting, playing instruments, mountain biking, surfing, disc golf, robotics, experiments, hanging out with friends, tiktok dances, magic tricks…you get the idea! Some kids do really awesome feats, but for the most part, it's just middle schoolers having fun and showing another side of themselves that is not seen in the school day.

Don’t be shy- let’s see your child at their best and doing what makes them happy and what will capture their middle school essence.

How to submit a video snip? There are a few ways!
1) Email
juliat@psdschools.org

2) Upload your video to Google Drive and share it with juliat@psdschools.org

3) Airdrop the video : Students with iPhones can visit me in Room 4 and AirDrop it to me during lunch, ELO or after school.

Submissions close May 15.

Thanks- I look forward to creating an amazing slideshow for this 8th grade class. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions!

Comprehensive Planning Committee (CPC) Update Comprehensive Planning Committee (CPC) Update

March 13, 2026

Dear PSD Community,

I am writing to share an update on the work of the Comprehensive Planning Committee (CPC) and a new resource now available for our community.

Last night at the Board of Education meeting, CPC Co-Chairs Brett Hansen and Dr. Traci Gile presented the committee’s recommended criteria to be used in determining possible school closures and consolidations in the future. As part of this presentation, two new district policies, District Policy FCB and FCB-R, were proposed for discussion and a first reading.

The recommendations presented by the committee and the proposed policies reflect several months of study, community engagement, and collaboration. During the last several months, 957 families provided feedback through in-person and virtual engagement sessions, small group discussions, and focused outreach to underrepresented groups. A district-wide criteria survey drew 7,519 responses in three languages. The community's top priorities for identifying schools to be considered for consolidation or closure were building condition and quality, building utilization, and enrollment projections. When asked what values are most important to maintain during any consolidation, families ranked program offerings, such as art, music, and physical education; continuity of support for students on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and neighborhood proximity as most important.

In addition to the identification criteria (building utilization, building condition and quality, and current and future enrollment), the proposed policies also include implementation criteria focused on traffic and walkability, transportation access, maximizing program offerings, school proximity and continuity of services for students with an IEP. Additionally, the district, in partnership with the Community Efficacy Committee and the District Efficacy Committee, has developed administrative guidelines specific to equity to be referenced throughout any closure or consolidation process.

To support transparency and keep our community informed, we have published a facilities data dashboard on the PSD website. This tool provides school-level data on enrollment, building capacity, utilization, facility condition, and other factors the committee is using in its work.

We have created a short video walkthrough to help you navigate the dashboard and understand the data: https://youtu.be/lCrr7Y0c_Zc

You can access the dashboard and additional information about the Comprehensive Planning Committee's work on the PSD

website: https://www.psdschools.org/community/comprehensive-long-range-planning-committee

The graphic below outlines the six-phase timeline guiding this work from community listening through implementation. We are currently wrapping up Phase 2 and anticipate moving into Phase 3 this summer.

The Board of Education will hold a second reading of and vote on the proposed policies at its May 26 meeting. If approved, the Board may then direct the superintendent to follow the process outlined in the policies, including preparing a recommendation for implementing closures and consolidations no sooner than the 2027-28 school year.

As always, community engagement will remain central to this process. We are committed to keeping you informed and ensuring your voice continues to shape this work.

With Appreciation,

Brian Kingsley

Boys & Girls Club Information Boys & Girls Club Information

Dear Club Families,

Happy May! As we turn the page into a new month, there’s a lot of energy and excitement building here at the Club—and for good reason.

I’m currently in Charlotte attending the Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Conference, Accelerating Impact, and it’s been an incredibly refreshing and motivating experience. Being surrounded by passionate leaders from across the country has given me a renewed perspective and plenty of ideas to help push our Club—and more importantly, our members—to new heights that I know we are all capable of reaching. I’m excited to bring that energy back home and continue building something truly special together.

Looking ahead, summer is right around the corner! We’re thrilled to give you a sneak peek at our Summer of Discovery programming. While calendars are still being finalized, the versions attached will give you a sense of the structure, themes, and opportunities your child can look forward to. We can’t wait for a summer full of growth, fun, and new experiences.

Summer registration is open, and we encourage you to secure your spot as soon as possible.

Summer Orientation Information

We are so excited to have your child join us for Summer of Discovery at the Fort Collins Boys & Girls Club. Please see information below about mandatory parent orientations.

  1. Orientation is required for your member to attend the summer program. We will discuss the program details and answer any questions you may have. There are two options for orientation. We may schedule a makeup orientation if needed.
  • Virtual: Friday, May 22 ⋅ 5:30 – 6:30pm (https://meet.google.com/ejb-vzoa-gpb)
  • In person (Spanish): Friday, May 22 ⋅ 5:30 – 6:30pm
  1. If you have a child at Dunn or Kruse Elementary, you will hear from those directors about a separate orientation.

Please reach out with any questions. We can't wait to have a great summer!

Keystone Parents Night Out – Family Night & Fundraiser

We also want to give a big shoutout to our Keystone group for organizing an upcoming Parents Night Out! This special evening will be centered around self-care, featuring therapy dogs and an aromatherapist to help create a relaxing and rejuvenating environment.

We encourage parents to take this time to focus on themselves—whether that means enjoying a quiet evening, running errands, or simply recharging. You’ve earned it!

Families are also welcome to stay and enjoy the event together if they’d like. We are asking for a $10 per family donation, with all proceeds going toward sending our Keystone members to the National Conference this summer. This event is also open to non-registered members ages 6+.

It’s a great cause and a great night—win-win.

As always, thank you for being such an important part of our Club community. We’re heading into an exciting season, and we’re grateful to have you along for the journey.

PSD Engagement Norms PSD Engagement Norms

In an effort to foster a culture of mutual respect, effective communication, and quality customer service, PSD has created a set of norms for staff, family/guardian, and community engagement. These norms aim to set a positive tone for interactions between staff and parents and community members, whether they happen in person, over the phone, or in writing.

The norms will be posted in all PSD schools and include expectations that:

  • Calls or emails that are not emergencies will be acknowledged within three school days.
  • Appointments between the parties involved will be established as a norm for addressing concerns or discussing important matters through direct communication.
  • Appointments will take place as soon as reasonably possible. Adequate time is needed for preparation and research before an appointment.
  • Communication will focus on collaboration and understanding – respectful language and non-confrontational behavior from all parties are expected.
  • Boundaries between personal and professional life will be maintained, and sensitive matters will not be addressed in community settings.

It’s important for everyone in our schools and in our communities to feel welcome and engage in mutual respect to best serve students.
