Waters Families,

Today we skipped Friday the 13th and went straight into Valentines' Day! Students delivered many Singing Valentine's today, the second year of a new tradition at Waters.

We are still in search of a coach for Girls on the Run for the coming spring. Please email parutkowski@cps.edu, if you are able to help make sure this wonderful program is available for our students.

Regular classes will resume on Wednesday. Please take a peek at the upcoming dates section below for parent teacher conferences and other key upcoming dates.

With kindness,

Mr. R.

What is self-regulation?

The action and process required to control the rate or speed of self to function. We all need to be able to up-regulate and down-regulate depending on each part of our days. To be able to understand self, identify need to change, then know how to change that state is a learned skill. To support our students/children learning this skill, we can use co-regulation.

What is co-regulation?

“Co-regulation is a mutual act, an exchange of calm that occurs between two people. But when it comes to adults (who have acquired the cognitive tools to manage their emotions) and children, co-regulation also means helping a child learn how to regulate their own emotions by showing empathy and modeling calmness.” - Molly Hagan, Child Mind Institute

To down regulate: slow, calm and familiar activities.

To up regulate: quick, novel and loud activities.
