How We Support Our Families at MCS
from Ms. Jessie Cox, Social Worker
At Midtown Community School, we want to support students so they are equipped with what they need to be successful at school. As the school Social Worker, I focus on supporting families in finding resources throughout the community to make sure that students have their day-to-day needs met. I help families find assistance with food, housing, utility needs, medical support, job searches and career training, and more.
The following programs are available to the families of Midtown Community School:
Harvesters BackSnack Program
The weekly BackSnack program provides students with a bag of easy meals and snack items to use over the weekend. All families have the opportunity to sign up for BackSnacks at the beginning of the school year, but space is limited.
Uniform Closet
Our community maintains a uniform closet, which helps to provide uniform pieces to our students. Families often donate new items or items that students have outgrown, and additional funds help supplement this inventory. Families can request assistance at any time through the Google form on the Support Services page of the website.
McKinney-Vento
As the McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaison for CWCKC, I support the needs of our families and students through the McKinney-Vento program, which is a federal program that removes barriers to education for students of families who are experiencing housing insecurity.
Impact MO
This community resources fair assists families with housing and rental assistance, career training and job search, legal support, and food and child care resources. This event takes place during the school year at a local event center. To register, please contact me!
Pop-Up Food Pantry
This monthly food pantry, funded by SparkWheel and Harvesters, takes place in the school lobby and is available to all families.
Be sure to watch your weekly newsletters, your child’s bookbag, and on social media for announcements regarding these opportunities! If you have any questions or are in need of assistance, please feel free to reach out to me at jessica.cox@cwckansascity.org! Please note that I am not in the building for much of the summer, but I will look forward to catching up with you when I return in late July!
