March 23,2026
Hello,

Our Robotics Club has been a huge success and the students have loved it. I'd like to thank our kindergarten teacher, Megan Flanders, for leading the club.

If you are a parent of a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grader, you will receive an email at apx. 8:00 tonight with sign up information for our next club which is an afterschool engineering and design club. We also have collected enough legos so as soon as I have a parent volunteer confirmed, I will send out information on an after school lego club for K-3rd graders. If you are interested in helping, please send me an email. I hope to start the Lego club in two weeks.

And last, a reminder that there is no school on March 30th as this is a professional development day for all staff.

Thank you,

Leah Wheelan, Principal

Announce on PikMyKid

Please make sure to announce your child when you arrive for pick up. It slows down our dismissal process if you do not announce your child on the app. Thank you.

Notes from the Nurse Notes from the Nurse

April Showers and Mud Season is Upon Us . . . Kids play hard at recess and oftentimes end up getting wet or muddy. Please send in spare clothing with your child. I don’t have a huge supply here at school!

Every Healthy Kid Challenge 2026

This year HSS will participate again in the national ‘Every Healthy Kid Challenge’ during the week of April 20 - April 24. Students will bring home a handout that includes the week’s challenges. Be sure to email pictures of any creations or adventures completed during the week. Students should return their completed forms after vacation. Any student who returns the handout will be entered into the school wide raffle, and 30 lucky students will win a fun prize!

I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to the HSS PTO! They have provided a donation to this event that allowed me to purchase wonderful prizes for students.

Free Webinar

Dartmouth College’s Geisel School of Medicine is offering a free webinar on March 31 from 12 - 1:30. This webinar is ideal for parents who are preparing to introduce technology to their children, as well as those who are navigating growing independence on devices with their teens or tweens. Information and registration can be found on the link below:

Vaping

I recently attended a seminar on vaping and learned about some alarming statistics. Although one may not think that vaping takes place at the elementary school level, the data states otherwise. According to The National Institutes of Health (NIH), E cigarette use is initiated as early as 7 years of age. It is never too early to start talking to kids about different ways to keep themselves safe. Here are some resources:

Blood Drive Sign Up from NHS

NHS is hosting its annual Blood Drive on Tuesday, March 31 in the LHS gym, and we need you!

Our goal is to collect 29 pints during this drive. We will have t-shirts to give away, as well as other prizes. You will also receive an Amazon gift card just for donating!

This drive is open to the public.

How can you help?

To be eligible to donate, you must:

  • be at least 17 years old (16 with parent permission - permission forms in the office and attached here)
  • meet height and weight requirements - at least 110 pounds
  • be in generally good health

Do you know your blood type? Are you O-, O+, A- or B-?

Consider making a Power Red donation! Your donation is essentially doubled! Sign up under the "Power Red" spot.

To be a Power Red donor, you must:

  • Females: be at least 5'3", weigh at least 150 lbs, be at least 19 years old
  • Males: be at least 5'1", weigh at least 130 lbs, br at least 17 years old

How can I help save lives?

  • Make an appointment online! You do need to schedule an appointment ahead of time.
Click here for website - please do not sign up for a Power Red donation unless you know you are an eligible donor; find a "Blood" donation spot instead

Top 10 reasons to give blood:

You will get juice and cookies. It's easy and convenient. You will weigh one pint less than when you came in. It's something you can spare. No one can ask you to do heavy lifting. You will walk a little taller afterward. You will be helping ensure that blood is there when it's needed. You will give a gift that costs nothing, but lasts a lifetime. You will be someone's hero. It's the right thing to do!

Questions?

Follow this link for the Red Cross Blood Donation FRQs.

Help us reach our goal, and help us save lives!

The LHS NHS thanks you.
