Principal's Message Principal's Message

Hello, Families,

This time of year always welcomes the changing colors of the leaves, blue skies, pumpkins on porches, and crips, fresh air. Fall is here! As the weather is beginning to turn cooler, please remind your students to take a jacket to school. Since the mornings have been in the 40s, some students are chilly as they arrive.

Please ask your child to look at the Lost and Found located in the hallway as they enter the cafeteria. A lot of items are left over from the spring and many have accumulated this fall. In next week's newsletter, we will send a video of the items currently in the Lost and Found. Any items still remaining on Oct. 31st will be donated to Good Will.

This Week's Questions Around the Dinner Table:

  • What are you working on in art class right now?
  • What kind of songs have you been singing in music class?

Have a great weekend,

Sharon Suriano

Principal

Our 3rd graders will take their state reading test on Tuesday, October 14 and Wednesday, October 15. We are so proud of how hard our students have been working to get ready!

Here are a few ways you can help your child do their best:

  • Make sure they get a good night’s sleep before each testing day.

  • Eat a healthy breakfast each morning.

  • Arrive to school on time so they can start the day calmly.

  • Offer encouragement and confidence—remind them to take their time and do their best!

We know our 3rd graders will shine! 🌟

Congratulations, October Golden Opportunity Winners! Congratulations, October Golden Opportunity Winners!

It was wonderful celebrating so many of our October Golden Opportunity winners and their special guests this past Monday. Students earn Golden Tickets all month long by going above and beyond in being safe, helpful, and caring! One ticket is drawn per classroom. Who will it be in November?

Our Fourth Grade Has "A Great Heart" Our Fourth Grade Has "A Great Heart"

The fourth graders joined a presentation from cardiologist Dr. Shah to support their current English Language Arts unit. The Wit and Wisdom Grade 4, Module 1 "A Great Heart" unit explores both the literal and figurative meanings of the word "heart" through texts and lessons. Students examine how the heart functions in the body, the circulatory system, and also investigate what it means to be courageous, generous, or heroic—demonstrating a "great heart" figuratively. The module's essential question is, "What does it mean to have a great heart, literally and figuratively?". Thank you, Dr. Shah!!

Third Graders Went Under the Sea! Third Graders Went Under the Sea!

Thank you, The Wave Foundation, a partner to The Newport Aquarium, for your virtual presentation to our third graders about sharks to support their current English Language Arts unit.

The Wit and Wisdom 3rd grade sharks unit is part of Module 1: The Sea, which uses the text "Shark Attack!" by Cathy East Dubowski. The unit focuses on the essential question, "Why and how do scientists study sharks?" and includes lessons on shark science, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills like finding the main idea.
