Bellerive Bulletin
September 6, 2026
Dear Bellerive Families,
I hope you are enjoying the long weekend! We are looking forward to another great week at Bellerive.
Open House on Tuesday
I hope to see parents and guardians (grades 1-5 only) on Tuesday evening for our annual Open House event. The format and schedule are below. (The Kindergarten Parent Orientation before school started was held in place of Open House for Kindergarten families.)
September: Take the Controls
Habit 1: Be Proactive
It is time for our Leaders Across the Galaxy to Take the Controls! This month, we are focusing on Leader in Me's Habit 1: Be Proactive.
Being proactive means taking responsibility for your own choices, actions, and attitudes. Proactive leaders take initiative, think before they act, and focus their energy on the things they can control rather than blaming others or waiting for someone else to solve a problem.
At Bellerive, students are practicing Habit 1 in everyday ways, such as:
- Getting started on their work without waiting for repeated reminders.
- Using proactive language like “I can,” “I will,” and “I choose.”
- Pausing and thinking before reacting when they are frustrated.
- Focusing on what they can control instead of blaming others or worrying about what they cannot change.
- Admitting when they make a mistake and working to make it right.
- Asking for help instead of giving up.
- Taking care of responsibilities like packing up materials, completing a classroom job, or remembering what they need for the day.
One simple way to reinforce Habit 1 at home is to ask, “What can you do about it?” or “What choice can you make next?” These questions help children focus on their own choices and actions.
Habits at Home
This Wednesday, your child will bring home our first Habits at Home activity (linked here). These monthly activities give families an opportunity to practice the 7 Habits together at home.
We are adding a little friendly competition this year! The grade level with the highest percentage of participation each month will earn bragging rights and the traveling Habits at Home trophy. The Habits at Home forms are due the Friday before the next half-day.
For Habit 1, completed activities are due Friday, October 2. We hope you will Take the Controls together at home and help your child’s grade level earn the first trophy of the year!
In Partnership,
Dr. Joey Kneer, Principal
