If you build it, they will come.

Last Friday, we held our Freshman orientation, Drivers Education parent's meeting, as well as an open house event for potential families thinking about joining the Cobra family. Mrs. Alley worked diligently to get the freshman orientation assembled in the best way possible that provided information for up and coming 8th grade students to be prepared for High School.

Afterward, Mr. Howard and I led an informative conversation with any potential families that was designed to be an open discussion. While we were expecting more questions during the meeting, several individuals came to me afterward and told me that we answered all of their concerns in the briefing. If anyone knows of a family that is considering coming to us next year, please feel free to send them the link to our google form for intent to enroll that will help us preload them into our system before the May 10th Lets Go Cobra (read below on this one) day. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfz8UNZxltjAwZTn1PdwbjjVQ2SDNcKUKc4EhCwjUax8-ejhA/viewform?usp=sf_link

Prior to this meeting, Mr. Howard and I talked about what to highlight in the meeting. We decided to just highlight what we all already know. The students, staff, and community that makes up Jackson Heights is incredible and we all love it here.

Keep on making a difference.

Lets Go Cobra Day

On May 10th, we will be doing a pre-enrollment day for all current and potential students preK-12. There will be no school this day as we will have a lot going on. We will be doing sports physicals for sports provided by Dr. Allen's office in the morning. All day we will have computers set up for pre-enrollment into powerschool for everyone. This way everyone can do their course requests and forms. Anyone that had filled out our early form we have been sending out will have a much easier time filling this out on May 10th. Also this pre-enrollment now will make enrollment in August much simpler.

Mr. Andrews will be providing school tours all day that includes the missile silo and the tunnel.

In the High School Commons, we will have a "Cobra Fair" set up with tables for our clubs and sports so families can meeting with the coaches and sponsors.

All families are encouraged to enroll on this day.

Softball is underway

Softball got along to a great start with a double header double win Monday night against Valley Falls. Coach Carson and Latham have done a great job working with these young ladies. It was a great feeling watching the first pitches of Cobra Softball history. Good luck in the rest of the season ladies.

Well that Tracks

Track season also got fired up this past week with a great showing at Holton this past week. When i asked coach V about the meet, she was excited for the rest of the season. Being our first meet of the year, she was expecting that this meet was more shaking out the cobwebs than anything else, but our kiddos showed up in force and did great. This season is going to be great.

Since it is baseball season, it is time that I admit to a dark secret. I am a Pittsburgh Pirates fan. Being from Pennsylvania, you are either all things Pittsburgh or all things Phillie. I am all things Pittsburgh. Being a Steelers of Penguins fan is easy. Their teams are always competitive....It's a rebuilding year. However, admitting to being a Pirates fan takes guts. Here is 12 year old me with my older brother Squeak and our friend Chad posing with the Pittsburgh Parrot.

Another thing most people don't know if they are not from the great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is that only people from Philly eat cheese steak sandwiches, the rest of us prefer the Primanti Bros sandwich from Pittsburgh.

There you have it, you know my dark secret. While I will still encourage my sons to be Steelers and Penguins fans, I will gladly have someone convert them to Royals fans for baseball.

Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind.
