Sand Point Squirrel Spotlight

Principal's Message
Hello Sand Point Families,
Our PTA is excited to kick off this yearβs auction and fundraising events with a community Bingo Night on Friday, May 1 from 5:30β7:30 p.m. This is always a fun and welcoming event for our community! To help make it a success, we are asking for donations of new or gently used items that can be used as Bingo prizes. If you are able to contribute, please drop off items in the front office with Ms. Sandy. Thank you for your support in making this event a success for our Squirrels.
Last week ended on such a high note with the impressive singing and performances from both our Kindergarten and 2nd grade students, along with the beautiful artwork showcased by Ms. Robersonβs 4/5 class. Our monthly assemblies truly bring so much joy, and we are grateful for the families and community members who are able to join us. We are already looking forward to next month, when our 4th and 5th grade instrumental music students will perform for the Sand Point community.
This coming week, we want to wish our 5th graders an incredible experience as they head off to their outdoor education program at IslandWood. This is a special opportunity to learn, grow, and connect outside the classroom. We encourage our students to remember their responsibilities to learn, have fun, and represent Sand Point with pride. The bus will leave promptly at 9:15 AM on Monday and return on Wednesday at 1:30 PM. Please note that this is after regular dismissal, so 5th grade families should plan for student pickup or transportation home at that time.
Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support of our school community.
Warmly,
Dr. Stephanie Zikopoulos

Supports for our Immigrant Students and Families
Dear SPS Families and Staff,
The events of the past few weeks in Minneapolis and across the country weigh heavily on our hearts. Our immigrant students and families are valued and beloved members of our SPS community. We are committed to ensuring our schools are places of safety and belonging for every student.
We understand that in the current landscape, fears and concerns about immigration enforcement in our own Seattle community are heightened. We have put together some guidance for our schools and resources for our families.
Guidance to Schools
If a school leader is made aware of a rumor or report of immigration enforcement activity near one of our campuses, they will notify the districtβs Safety and Security office. The report will be assessed by Safety and Security, and next steps will be determined in partnership with the school leader.
If immigration enforcement agents attempt to access our school buildings, they will not be granted access unless Seattle Public Schools legal counsel is able to verify a judicial warrant. More information can be found in Superintendent Procedure 4310SP.B β Limiting Immigration Enforcement at Schools.
Resources for Families
Families and community members can find resources and supports on our website. These include links to know your rights materials, the Cityβs rapid response program, legal resources, and family preparedness planning.
Emergency resources can also be found by calling 844-724-3737 to report immigration enforcement activity or get connected to emergency resources.
We are grateful for our communityβs partnership in upholding our studentsβ sense of security and their right to an equitable education. We ask that any reports of immigration enforcement presence near our schools be provided via Safe Schools Hotline at 206-252-0510. The Safety and Security Department is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Community members can make reports of safety issues impacting schools to District staff. In an emergency, reports should be made directly to 911.
