Note from the Principals
This week, we had a wonderful week of celebrations at HHES. Our students have been hard at work on our Holiday Giving Drive. We have been collecting donations of toys and warm winter wear with the goal of collecting 900 items. Our students have tallied the donation total and we are thrilled to share that we collected 660 items this year. Today, we had a special all-school assembly where our partners at Fire District 3 collected our donations and will help distribute them to families in need.
We also held a school spirit week this week. Students showed off their pajamas, twin outfits, and festive holiday gear during our holiday spirit days. You can check out a few images of our students (and staff) below.
With all the wintry weather we have had this month, out health room is low on their supply of pants, shoes, sock, and underwear for our students to use if they need to change during the day. Our health room is accepting donations of gently used pants and shoes and NEW socks and underwear. If you have any items to spare, our health room team would appreciate your donation.
As we set off for Winter Break, we wish you all happy holidays! We hope that the break is full of fun family time and lots of rest. We look forward to seeing you in the new year!

Highly Capable Program Nomination
Parents of Students in Grades 2-5:
Highly Capable students are students who perform or show potential for performing at significantly advanced academic levels when compared with others of their age, experiences, or environments. Outstanding abilities are seen within students' general intellectual aptitudes, specific academic abilities, and/or creative productivities within a specific domain (WAC 392-170-035).
The nomination process for the Highly Capable Program will be open from Friday, December 19, 2025 through Friday, January 30, 2026. During this time parents, teachers, or community members may nominate a student for assessment. The screening process uses a wide variety of information from various data sources to determine if a student is a good match for the Highly Capable Program services. The CogAT assessment will be administered to provide the screening team with additional information about each student’s strengths and areas for growth.
Hockinson School District provides testing for potential inclusion in the Highly Capable Program, typically when a student is in grade 2 or when a new student enters the district. If you would like your second through fifth grade student assessed for potential placement in the Highly Capable program, please complete the nomination form, permission to test form, and parent rating scale and return them to school, via email or drop off between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., by January 30, 2026. These forms can be found at our website. Testing will take place between February 6 – 13, 2026 during the school day.
Should you have any questions, please contact our Highly Capable Program Director, Joshua Robertson (joshua.robertson@hocksd.org) or HHES Principal, Meredith Gannon at (meredith.gannon@hocksd.org).
