HIIA Site Announcement
April 2025
Message from the Principal
Dear Families,
We hope this message finds you well. We are writing to share an important update about our school campus for the 2025–2026 school year.
Starting next school year, Temecula International Academy (TIA) will be temporarily located on the Vintage Hills Elementary/Home INstead Innovation Academy (VHES/HIIA) campus. While the schools will share the same physical space, they will continue to operate independently as separate educational programs.
Currently, TIA operates on the campuses of Nicolas Valley Elementary (K–5) and Margarita Middle School (6–8). However, due to planned modernization construction at Nicolas Valley Elementary during the 2025–2026 school year, TIA must relocate.
We recognize that changes like this can bring questions and concerns, and we want to assure you that our priority remains the safety, well-being, and academic success of every student. We are committed to maintaining a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for all students across our TVUSD campuses.
To ensure a smooth transition, district staff are working closely with the leadership teams from VHES, HIIA, and TIA to thoughtfully coordinate the shared use of the campus. This includes planning for schedules, designated spaces, and resources to minimize disruptions and maintain the integrity of all school programs.
We value your partnership and appreciate your support as we move through this transition together. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Lisa Brown, Director of Accountability and Assessment, at lbrown1@tvusd.us.
Thank you for being a vital part of our school community.
Warm regards,
Ms. Sandy McKay
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why is Temecula International Academy moving to the VHES/HIIA campus?
A: Nicolas Valley Elementary School, where TIA currently operates grades K–5, will be undergoing a major modernization project during the 2025–2026 school year. To accommodate this, TIA will relocate to the VHES/HIIA campus.
Q: Why was the Vintage Hills school site selected to house TIA?
A: Under Proposition 39, public school districts are required to provide charter schools with facilities that are “reasonably equivalent” to those used by district students. After evaluating available space across the district, the Vintage Hills campus was identified as the most suitable location to meet these requirements while minimizing impact on the TVUSD school communities. The decision was made in alignment with state law and with thoughtful planning to ensure both programs can operate successfully on a shared site.
Q: Will this change impact my child’s learning experience at VHES or HIIA?
A: No. Maintaining the high-quality educational experience at VHES and HIIA is our top priority. Careful planning is in place to ensure there is minimal disruption to schedules, routines, and the use of learning spaces.
Q: Will the schools be sharing classrooms or teachers?
A: No. Each school will remain an independent program with its own staff, students, classrooms, and instructional resources. Shared spaces—such as playgrounds or lunch areas—will be scheduled thoughtfully to ensure equitable and uninterrupted access.
Q: How will student safety be maintained with multiple schools on one campus?
A: Student safety is our highest priority. School administrators and district leaders are working closely to coordinate drop-off/pick-up procedures and times, campus supervision, and facility use to ensure a secure and well-managed environment for all students.
Q: How long will TIA be located on the VHES/HIIA campus?
A: Temecula International Academy will be located at Vintage Hills and Margarita Middle Schools for the duration of the 25-26 and 26-27 school years. Facility Use Agreements could be reconsidered for the 27-28 school year and beyond.
Q: Who can I contact with additional questions?
A: Please feel free to reach out to Lisa Brown, Director of Accountability and Assessment, at lbrown1@tvusd.us for more information or with any concerns.
