MHS Parent/Community Newsletter
Hello MHS Students and Families,
Let's talk about a phrase you may have seen around the school this year: Smíðum Ágæti. What the heck is it, and why have we adopted it at Middleton High School?
Simply put, Smíðum Ágæti translates to "Forging Excellence" in Icelandic and Old Norse, the language of the Vikings.
So why is "Forging Excellence" important to us at MHS?
This year, we are challenging ourselves to embrace challenges and look for opportunities to grow. A forge is a place where metal is subjected to intense heat and pressure to shape it into something stronger and more useful. We see a similar process happening in education. We want to help our students become strong, capable graduates who are prepared to take on whatever comes next.
That doesn't happen by always taking the easiest path. It happens when students challenge themselves, step outside their comfort zones, learn from setbacks, and continue to grow. Our staff has embraced this challenge as well. We are working to increase rigor, improve our instruction, and inspire students to strive for more than they have in the past.
We ask that parents join us in this effort. Encourage your student to take a challenging class, try a new club or activity, step outside their comfort zone, and make the most of their time at MHS. Don't simply coast through high school. Take advantage of the opportunities to learn, grow, and become better.
That's what Smíðum Ágæti is all about: Forging Excellence.
Thank you for your continued support of Middleton High School. Let's have a great year!
Go Vikes!
