Updates and Info from Dr. T
Farley Elementary School - Feb 28, 2025
Can you believe...
it's March?
I'm very much hoping for nice weather during Spring Break! It's very early this year, and as soon as we are back, we begin our gauntlet of testing. This year, we have decided to take advantage of the full testing window to not overwhelm everyone at at once.
Attendance
We are hovering around 6% Chronically Absent, which is improved around 3-4% from December! THANK YOU.
ZOODLES Animal Encounter!! TUESDAY, March 4
>>> UPDATED DATE>>>
On TUESDAY, March 4th we will have a school wide assembly with an animal encounter! Zoodles Animal Education Programs will be visiting us free of charge with their animals. ALL students will need a permission slip to attend. While this is free for all students, the company does offer a photo session with one of 3 animals for $10 (baby kangaroo, tortoise, and ball python). The assembly will be at 9 AM in the cafeteria.

Farley's Report Card Score
The Alabama State Department of Education recently released School Report Card scores and Farley Elementary was awarded a 94!!! This score represents a multi-year trend of improvement in Academic Achievement and a significant reduction in the percentage of students who are considered Chronically Absent. The three-year trends are visualized below:
Attendance
Parents may excuse only 8 days for the entire school year.
Parents - remember that excuse notes must be submitted promptly. The HCS expectation is that within 3 days, a parent or doctor's note is submitted to the school. After 8 excused absences (not individual notes), students must have a doctor's note. A student checked out before 11:30AM is considered absent unless they check back in.
Farley Elementary's Chronic Absenteeism rate is around 6%, which lower than our surrounding schools. However, when schools receive their Report Card scores, 15% of the total grade is based on the percentage of students who are Chronically Absent. We lost one point on our Report Card Grade. I would like to get that point back this year, which means our CA rate needs to be less than 3%.
Chronic Absenteeism is defined as a student missing 18 or more days for the school year, regardless of reason.
