A Note From The Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
It’s hard to believe we’ve reached April vacation and are already more than 140 days into the school year. April Break is next week! Time has certainly flown by!
As we return from break, we are heading into a busy stretch with field trips scheduled across all grade levels. It’s an exciting time of year filled with meaningful experiences for our students.
The return from vacation also brings us into the homestretch of the school year. While there are many exciting activities ahead, we remain committed to staying focused on our students’ academic success.
We would also like to recognize our 3rd and 4th grade students for completing the ELA MCAS. We are incredibly proud of their efforts—the students remained focused, took their time, and approached the assessment with great care. With that being said, we are approaching the Math MCAS testing window for our 3rd and 4th grade students. SEE DATES BELOW. Before testing days, please help your student by ensuring they get 8–10 hours of sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school in a positive frame of mind. Please encourage confidence! Let your student know they can be successful and that their best effort is what matters most. Remind them that all they can do is try their best.
With so many upcoming events, please be sure to check your child’s backpack and your email regularly for important announcements and updates.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. It is truly an honor to serve as the principal of Heritage Elementary School, and I am incredibly proud of our students, staff, and school community. Together, we will make these final months of the school year both meaningful and successful for all of our students.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me at polson@dcrsd.org or call 508-248-4884.
Warm regards,
Principal Olson

ATTENDANCE NOTIFICATION LETTERS
Under Massachusetts General Laws, public school districts are required by law to notify parents/guardians when a student reaches a certain number of absences. These notices are not discretionary and must be sent once the established threshold is met.
In our school district, an attendance warning letter is automatically generated when a student reaches five (5) absences, regardless of the reason for the absence. This includes excused absences such as illness.
We understand that receiving this type of letter can be concerning or upsetting. Please know that the letter is not a disciplinary action, nor does it mean that a family has done anything wrong. Its purpose is simply to ensure that families are informed and that the school complies with state law.
Our goal is to work in partnership with families to support regular school attendance, which is essential for students’ academic and social development. If your child has ongoing medical concerns or circumstances affecting attendance, we encourage you to contact the school so we can provide appropriate support.
If you have any questions about attendance policies or receive a letter and would like to discuss it, please do not hesitate to reach out to the school Principal, Mr. Olson. We thank you for your understanding and continued collaboration.
