Class News
Dear 3rd Grade Families,
What a great start to the school year we have had! It has been wonderful to see our students so happy to see one another and excited to be back at school. They have been engaged, enthusiastic, and eager to try new things as we dive into learning.
In math and reading, students have been embracing new challenges, asking thoughtful questions, and building confidence as they learn. We are so proud of the effort and positive attitudes they are bringing to the classroom each day!
Thank you to all of the parents who joined us for Parent Night. We truly appreciate you taking the time to learn more about your child's classroom experience and to partner with us. The time, support, and involvement that everyone has shown, makes such a meaningful difference in our classrooms and in your child's success.
We are looking forward to a wonderful year filled with learning, growth, new experiences, and success. Thank you for being an important part of our classroom community. We are excited for all that this year has in store!
Warmly,
3rd Grade Teachers
WHAT WE ARE LEARNING
Math Focus for Next Week:
- Students will continue building their place value skills as we learn how to compare and order numbers up to 10,000 using place value charts and the symbols < and >.
- Students will practice ordering numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least.
- Students will begin exploring rounding numbers to the nearest ten and hundred. They will use number lines and place value charts to determine which numbers are closest and strengthen their number sense.
ELAR Focus for Next Week:
- Reading: We will identify the main idea and supporting details in a nonfiction text to help us better understand what we read.
- Writing: We will continue reviewing complete sentences and focus on adding details to make our sentences more interesting and engaging.
- We are also wrapping up our summer reading activity and will be sharing our reviews next week.
Science Focus for Next Week:
What is Happening in Science/STEM?
What a great beginning of the school year! The students did an excellent job learning that they can describe themselves using science academic language. Students traveled through stations that included measurement, learned what the moon phase was the day they were born, inherited traits, learned behaviors, favorite use of electricity and their favorite science topic to create a scientific tool.
This week in science students will begin their first unit on Motion. Students will explore the way objects move. They will test to see if a marble will follow different shaped ramps and record their observations through a lab setting. Students will then compare their predictions to their observations to complete their inquiry activity.
Academic Language: prediction, investigation, observation communication
Social Studies Focus for Next Week:
We have been working on "What is social studies?" and will continue to do so next week and then begin moving into our "Communities" unit.
