Westmoor Weekly 04/17/26
Author Order Form attached
April 17, 2026
A Note from Principal Eck
Dear Westmoor Families,
We had an exciting week filled with fun activities and meaningful accomplishments! Our students had a fantastic time participating in the Bulldog Pack scavenger hunt, where they explored and uncovered interesting facts about Westmoor.
In addition to building their searching and teamwork skills, our fifth-grade students also completed the Illinois Science Assessment. We are incredibly proud of their hard work, focus, and perseverance!
Next Wednesday, we will also take time to celebrate and recognize the incredible work of Mrs. Ferraro and Mrs. Josephson—our amazing administrative assistants who keep everything running smoothly each day. Their dedication, organization, and positive energy make a meaningful difference in our school community. We are so grateful for all that they do!
Also next Wednesday, our students will participate in an exciting in-school field trip with Galaxy on the Go. This immersive experience brings a portable planetarium right into our school, giving students the opportunity to explore space in an engaging and interactive way. A special thank you to our PTO for making this experience possible!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Quote of the Week
Each week students may submit a positive quote that captures and motivates their peers to persevere and feel good. We then showcase the quotes throughout the school building. Students may submit a quote, using this link.

We’re excited to showcase the special moments and achievements of our students and their families. Whether it’s a holiday, cultural tradition, a child’s milestone like riding a bike without training wheels, a big win at a soccer game, welcoming a new pet, or anything else that makes you proud — we’d love to feature it! Here is the link to share a photo and brief description.

Incoming 6th Grade Orientation at NBJH Next Week
All 5th-grade students and their parents/guardians are invited to attend the Incoming 6th Grade Orientation this Thursday, April 23, at 6:45 p.m at NBJH. The evening will begin and end in the NBJH main gym, and it will last approximately one hour. Parking is available in the front parking lot and both rear parking lots. Families should check in at the tables in the gym lobby when they arrive to pick up their packet for the evening and their child's name tag. We ask that parents/guardians sit with their child during the presentations in the main gym. The slideshow and all handouts will be shared with 5th-grade families following Thursday's event. NBJH looks forward to meeting the NBJH Class of 2029 this Thursday!
Summer Programming Registration Deadline Extended
The deadline to register for summer programming courses for incoming 1st through 8th-grade students is now Monday, April 20. If you haven't registered yet, there are still openings, including:
- Exploring Literature with Crafts and Imagination: Get ready for an exciting journey through the world of picture books! In this class, we'll dive into a mix of enchanting new stories and beloved classics. After each reading, we'll unleash our creativity with fun and easy crafts that connect to the themes of the books.
- Flash Fiction: Students will learn the art of writing Flash Fiction—very short stories that include all the essential elements of traditional storytelling but within a tightly controlled word count, ranging from six to 1,000 words. Through guided exercises and creative prompts, students will explore a variety of genres, developing their ability to craft compelling narratives with precision and impact.
- Kindness Club: Kindness Club is a fun and welcoming summer class where younger students learn how to be kind friends. Through stories, games, songs, and craft activities, children will practice sharing, using kind words, listening to others, and understanding feelings.
- Little Spot and Friends: This course will provide a social-emotional learning (SEL) experience by exploring the colorful, character-driven book series, A Little Spot by Diane Alber. This book series will help students begin to identify, understand, and manage emotions through fun activities.
- Scrapbooking Studio: In this fun, hands-on class, students will explore the art of scrapbooking while creating a personalized memory book. The students will bring their own photos while they use scrapbooks provided by the school. Along with stickers, decorative scissors, and other creative supplies, students will learn simple design techniques, page layouts, and ways to tell stories through pictures and words.
The 2026 session will run from Thursday, June 4, to Friday, June 26. There is no Summer Enrichment/ESY on Friday, June 19. Students in grades 1-4 attend Summer Enrichment/ESY at Westmoor School. Students in grades 5-8 attend Summer Enrichment/ESY at Northbrook Junior High. Click here to check out course offerings and register today!
