PBIS MONTHLY UPDATES FROM OUR VERY OWN Mr. Walden
March Character Trait : FAIRNESS
AND THE STUDENT OF THE MONTH WINNERS ARE...
APRIL'S CHARACTER TRAIT IS.... HELPING
ARONIMINK's ROYAL RHYTHM DANCE CLUB
Led by the "ROCKIN'" MS. COHEN
The amazing Ms. Cohen volunteered to begin a dance club at Aronimink after school. There was an incredible amount of interest and these students have been moving and grovin' to the many beats and dance moves that Ms. Cohen brings to these very lucky students.
This club began meeting in February and has been practicing hard on a group dance number to be performed at the Student of the Month Ceremony in May. They can't wait to show off their moves and rock with their fellow Royals!
Thank you Ms. Cohen for giving us this "rockin'" opportunity.
FABULOUS FIFTH GRADERS
Mrs. Woodbridge's Math Class
Mrs. Woodbridge is really Aronimink's ALL STAR MATHEMATICIAN! She frequently turns MATH into fun and in March she turned it into FUN & YUM!!!
Her lucky 5th grade math classes used their knowledge of dividing fractions to follow a recipe for Irish Potatoes! YUM, what an amazing way to use math for such an amazing treat!
FANTASTIC FOURTH GRADERS
Fourth grade students have just completed fractions in Math. Currently, students are learning how fractions relate to decimals. Soon, students will move on to geometry. In geometry, students will not only identify geometric lines and shapes, but they will also learn about right, acute and obtuse angles. Students will be able to identify angles and triangles based on their angles, but they will also learn how to measure these angles.
In ELA, students continue to work on essay writing. The ability to construct a 4 to 5 paragraph essay in response to text is something students continue to work on. Students learn how to write an introductory paragraph that sparks interest in the reader. Following that, students compose 2-3 paragraphs that provide evidence to support their thesis statement. Finally, students write a concluding paragraph that restates the thesis and provides a quick restating of the evidence.
Science has concluded for the school year and fourth grade students will spend the remainder of the year focused on Social Studies. Students will begin by focusing on map reading skills, such as using a map key and a map scale. They will also learn about the global grid. The global grid uses lines of longitude and latitude to mark locations on the Earth. Students will be able to use the global grid to find locations on a map.
TERRIFIC THIRD GRADERS
In Science we completed our "ULTIMATE PLAYGROUND" and have moved on to "INTO THE BIODOME". In this unit we will be planting and learning about life cycles. We will be getting our caterpillars and watching them "transform" into butterflies!!
In Math and Language Arts we have been preparing for the PSSA! We can't wait to show off all that we have learned!
Please be sure to be completing homework nightly in IXL and AMIRA!
Third Grade also had a great time on their Collen Brook Field Trip. We learned a lot of our Upper Darby History. Be sure to ask us all about it!
SUPER SECOND GRADERS
Second grade students have been enjoying the warmer weather and taking advantage of more outdoor recess days! It has been wonderful to see everyone spending time outside and staying active.
In math, we have been focusing on place value with three-digit numbers. After building a strong understanding of hundreds, tens, and ones, students began working on addition with three-digit numbers. They have been practicing different strategies to help solve these larger problems.
In reading, we have been practicing spelling patterns with long vowel sounds. Students have been working with vowel teams such as ai, ay, eigh, ey, oa, ow, and oe. We have also been reading stories connected to our weather theme, including Cloudette and Whatever the Weather, which the students really enjoyed.
In science, we are learning about different types of erosion, including erosion caused by wind, water, and glaciers. Students explored how erosion affects land and discussed ways people can help prevent it. As part of our investigation, students designed and built models of solutions to reduce erosion and tested how effective their ideas were. They did a fantastic job thinking like scientists!
FUN IN FIRST GRADE
First grade had an amazing time on our trip to the Philadelphia Zoo! The students were so excited to see the animals up close and make connections to what we have been learning in science. We have been having a lot of fun learning about animals and their habitats, and the zoo was the perfect way to bring our learning to life. We are trucking along toward the end of the year and looking forward to all the fun still ahead!
OUR LITTLEST LEARNERS *Kindergarten*
Kindergarten students are currently learning about how animals and humans change their environment to survive in this current science unit. What a great time to experience a changing environment as we see signs of Spring everywhere! The best sign is warm enough weather to enjoy the playground on Fun Friday!
ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS
Our Bilingual Buddies worked together at their March meeting to build a "rainbow" out of pipecleaners, marshmallows, and cereal!
The EL Bilingual Buddies program was the brain child of Aronimink's own, the AMAZING Mrs. King. All of our EL teachers embraced the program, knowing this was something our students would also embrace and benefit from.
Thank you to our fabulous EL teachers for going above and beyond by creating these opportunities with their Bilingual Buddies. Our students have been able to learn and grow with these special friendships that would not have been possible without your extra effort. Thank you for all you do!
OUR SPECTACULAR READING TEAM with some READING NEWS
SHOUT OUT to our amazing READING TEAM for planning another festive READ ACROSS AMERICA WEEK. We enjoyed the special dress down days, activites, and fun that you organized for the entire school. Thank you Ms. Bowden, Mrs. Bradley, and Mrs. Davenport for always making Aronimink a special place and for pushing us to become the best readers we can be!

LIBRARY with the WONDERFUL MS. PAULY
In the library, students have begun exploring nonfiction texts and learning how to use text features—such as headings, captions, and diagrams—to better understand and navigate new information. These skills will support our upper elementary students as they prepare for their end-of-year research projects.
For our younger learners, exploring nonfiction helps build important early reading skills. Students learn how to identify and use text features like pictures, labels, and headings to better understand what they are reading. This strengthens comprehension, builds vocabulary, and encourages curiosity about the world around them. Developing these skills now lays a strong foundation for future research and learning.
I encourage you to ask your child what topics they are interested in learning more about!
ART WITH THE AWESOME MS. PAGANO
Shout out to Mrs. Suranyi’s 3rd-grade class for earning 15 Royal Artist certificates in art class!
Students earned this achievement by consistently following the 3 B’s - being safe, respectful, and responsible. As a reward, they had the opportunity to work on collaborative art posters. They had so much fun painting, drawing, and working together as a team!
Great job, artists - keep up the amazing work!
Special SHOUT OUT to the AWESOME Ms. Pagano for pushing us to do our best and rewarding those classes that follow our school rules!
