Puberty II: Navigating Changes (9/25)

This class picks up where Understanding Changes leaves off, focusing on the effects of the changes that occur during puberty. With additional information on both the male and female anatomy, students will explore the concept of respect for themselves and others. Difficult topics such as sexual harassment and sexting are explored through age-appropriate scenarios. To enroll in this class, students must have taken our former Linda/Michael class or Puberty 1-UNDERSTANDING CHANGES program.

Students will:

  • Demonstrate ways to maintain healthy relationships
  • Identify functions of reproductive organs
  • Recognize the role hormones play during puberty
  • Identify strategies for staying safe on-line

Substance Abuse Prevention: Influencers (9/30)

Using graphic novels, animated shorts, trivia, games, and more, we will show the impact of certain drugs on the developing brain and body. A perfect resource for young people (ages 12-18). Teachers and parents are also encouraged to use these resources to get the conversation started about drugs and keep it going! We'll be regularly updating content, adding more modules to continue to promote ongoing learning and engagement.

Teen Sexual Health I (9/25)

This redeveloped program provides students with straightforward information about sexuality and its risks using an engaging story-telling approach. Science-based program topics include forms of sexual contact, teen pregnancy and contraception and the signs and consequences of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Additionally, topics such as identity and values, healthy communication, consent, and gender are explored. Based on the program content, educators lead students in identifying the skills and strengths that they possess to make responsible sexual choices.

Students will…

  1. recognize that the decisions they make can impact their sexual health
  2. identify the powers they possess to make decisions about their sexual health
  3. understand sexual intercourse and its relationship to human reproduction
  4. understand STIs, how they are transmitted and ways to minimize risk of transmission

With a focus on respect for self and for others, students are given ideas for conversation starters to help navigate boundary-setting and consent. Teen Sexual Health I is a pre-requisite.

Students will…

  1. Use sources of factual information to make decisions about my sexual health
  2. Understand how STIs are transmitted and ways to reduce risk
  3. Understand how pregnancy occurs and ways to reduce risk

Learning Appraoch

All Puberty, Sex & Drug education programs now utilize a blended learning model. This approach enhances our programs in the following ways:

  • Multiple opportunities for students to access and understand content through the use of our Learning Management System (LMS).
  • eLearning activities completed prior to our visit prepare students with the background knowledge needed to be more fully engaged during the classroom program.
  • Post-activities allow students to apply what they have learned.
  • Assessment reports on the LMS allow teachers to gauge student growth from pre- to post-test.
