ADMINISTRATIVE ANNOUNCEMENTS
Important: Complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FARM) Application
Dear CMIT Parents and Guardians,
We need your support to ensure our CMIT schools receive the funding necessary to provide the best possible education for your children. Due to changes under the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, our schools face budget challenges, partly because of low submission rates for Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FARM) applications.
Even if you think your family may not qualify, we strongly encourage every parent to complete the application. Each submitted form helps secure essential funding for your school, and unsubmitted forms could mean a loss of $7,800 per student.
Why is this important?
FARM applications determine eligibility for free/reduced meals and additional funding for your child’s school.
Schools lose significant resources if families do not complete these forms, even if they may not qualify.
How easy is it to apply?
It only takes 5-10 minutes to complete the application.
Applications are simple and available in English, Spanish, and French.
You can submit online at www.myschoolapps.com or by following the attached instructions.
Income eligibility guidelines are available on the district website:
https://www.pgcps.org/offices/food-and-nutrition/free-and-reduced-meals
Please take a moment to complete the application today. Every application submitted strengthens our ability to serve your children and our community.
For assistance or questions, feel free to contact your school front office.
Thank you for supporting our CMIT schools!

Fair Funding Advocacy
Huge thank you to the families that sent in testimony and those that showed up in Upper Marlboro last night. At the meeting, it was evident that the Superintendent's team did NOT meaningfully act upon the directive from the Board. Board Members did call out that fact. In addition to the (statewide) BluePrint funding cuts, plus sharing SPED overages, the Superintendent also proposed increasing the costs of central office administrative expenses from 2% to over 6%. Mr. Ak was at the meeting and he and his team are planning to digest the Superintendent's report on Charter School funding that was presented at the meeting. He has reassured us that CMIT schools are able to weather the funding challenges over the next couple of years and will NOT close, but parents we need to continue to raise our concerns because while the school may not close, there could be impacts to staffing, services, and other programming that help set our school apart from the pack. WE NEED YOUR ENERGY, ENGAGEMENT, AND ADVOCACY to continue this push for fair funding! Art
Greetings,
The past weeks have included reinforcing the importance of craftsmanship, presentation, and reflection. We are including more student critiques.
Kindergarteners are finishing up their color wheel creations which entail making scenes out of a color wheel.
First graders are putting together their flavorful food combinations in which they are choosing items that don't go together to present them in a tastful presentation.
Second graders are working on their architectural projects to give us their idea of a crazy building that serves a specific community.
Third graders finished their hybrid animal presentations today which you will find an examples of attached to the newsletter.
Fourth graders are still working on their Notan squares. And exercise in understanding positive and negative space along with how to use reflective symmetry and balance.
Fifth graders are settling down to create some rather intricate entanglements which require attention to detail and a slow mindful approach to their work.
Thank you,
Mr. Dorsey
