The Weekly Highlander

Next week is conference week, and we will be on a minimum-day schedule on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, with dismissal at 12:25 pm. On these days, we will be serving breakfast before school from 7:50 am - 8:10 am, and lunch items will be served during the morning break. There will not be food service after school. If you are wondering if your child will have a conference, the parents of students who are struggling in their classes have been contacted and an appointment for a conference next week has been scheduled.

On Wednesday, September 25th, PTA is hosting our annual Color Run; we are so excited about this annual community event. We are still in need of Color Run Volunteers, please sign up HERE to help. This is always so much fun for our students and staff and we appreciate all of the parents who help make this happen! We will round out our week with our first Student Recognition Assembly on Friday at 11:30 am. If your student is receiving an award, your child's teacher will contact you directly.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Mr. Brakke from our local Chik-Fil-A on 17th Street who made a generous donation of meal cards to incentivize our students to be at school. Thank you so much for such an awesome reward students can earn for just ATTENDING SCHOOL!

Congratulations to Mr.Narciso, the person behind the scenes who makes all of our technology work. He quietly supports students and staff and has quickly become the person we go to to get things working. He is efficient and is always willing to help people to make their day easier. We appreciate all of his hard work. THANK YOU!

The Hewes staff is recognizing HIGHLANDERS “H” FOR A DAY AWARD! Highlander for a Day is a program at Hewes Middle School that celebrates students for incredible moments in the areas of Respect, Responsibility, and Results.

Please welcome Mr.Kramer to the Hewes staff. He is one of our amazing Core 6 team members and teaches Reading, Language Arts, and Social Studies. Last year, he was working at Heritage Elementary School in Tustin teaching 5th grade. Mr.Kramer attended Hewes Middle School as a student and he is so excited to be back as a teacher. Please be sure to introduce yourself when you see him on campus.

FUN FACT: Mr.Kramer can play 7 musical instruments! 🪕🎸🎻🎷

If you are interested in supporting Club Rush at Hewes, please consider buying supplies from the Amazon Wish List. Poster boards, decorations, and treats for the club rush tables are great to have, and providing students with supplies to market their club is appreciated.

Sixth-grade families interested in the ELOP after-school program need to reach out to Nancy Roman at the YMCA. The best way to connect is to email her directly at nroman@ymcaoc.org. She will be able to provide information about eligibility and registration.
