GVMS December Newsletter

As the temperatures drop and winter weather comes in, please encourage your children to dress appropriately. They spend time outside before and after school, at the bus stop and during recess.

Many middle schoolers think they are impervious to cold temperatures, then they complain about "freezing to death" when we head outside.

Fresh air is good for us all and getting out to run around helps our kids stay healthy and focused on learning.

If you need support in obtaining winter gear, please contact the School Based Family Resource Center across from CFL.

We will give our winter NWEA assessments on December 3rd and 4th. This is a shorter assessment than CMAS and give teachers real time actionable data to use in planning and supporting your children's learning.

Please have your child arrive at school with a fully charged chromebook, charging cord and reading book. The tests will be administered from 8-10 am each morning.

Beginning with our Girls' Basketball and moving forward, all athletic registrations will now be online. They will ask for the same information, including medical insurance, fees, and proof of a physical. Please follow the information below for athletic registrations.

Athletic Registration

It's that time of year again! We are excited to have your student interested in participating in athletics for the 2025-2026 school year.
Parents/Guardians of student-athletes intending to participate in athletics MUST complete their online registration, which includes uploading their students’ most recent physical to ensure eligibility for participation. We have simplified this process through online digital registration.

Please follow these steps:
1. Create an Arbiter Registration account (you only need one account for your whole family).

2. Activate your Arbiter Registration account using the activation link that will be automatically sent to your email. (Note: this email may go into your junk folder).
• If you are having trouble creating your account, receiving the activation email, or logging in, you may contact support at registration@arbitersports.com or call us at 800-311-4060.

3. Complete your athletic registration:
• Select the Athletic Registration program from the Grand Valley Middle School.
• Once you have completed your registration, you will receive an email notification confirming we have received your registration.

If you need assistance with your online registration, please reach out to Arbiter Registration Support at 800-311-4060 or registration@arbitersports.com.

Here are a couple tips:

1. While it can be done via a phone, it is typically easier through a laptop or Chromebook type of device.

2. We suggest using Microsoft Edge as the browser.

3. The athlete's current physical should be saved as a PDF to be uploaded to the site. If you need the required CHSAA physical form it is included through the link below.

4. If the student is insured, have the current insurance card available to be uploaded.

5. The process does not have to be completed at one time. You will open an Arbiter account and will be able to return to it as needed and to register in future years.

All quarterly and semester grade reports will be available through Infinite Campus approximately one week after the quarter ends.

In an effort to conserve our resources, we will issue paper report cards upon request.

Canvas is the platform that teachers use to post assignments, resources, and grades. This is also where students can access these things, and sometimes even turn in assignments. Canvas support for parents can be found here. Follow the links for informational videos below.
