Welcome to the 2025-2026 School Year
Hello Person County Schools Virtual Academy (PCSVA) students and families!
I am so excited to welcome you to the 2025-2026 school year! As a product of Person County Schools and educator for over 25 years, I look forward to working closely with students and parents to create a high-quality, virtual learning experience. My goal is to be a servant leader and work diligently to build relationships with each student and family. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.
Person County Schools Virtual Academy is in its fifth year for the 2025-2026 school year. We are a part of the Person County Schools district and will serve students this year in 6th through 12th grades. Students, families, and teachers who participate in PCSVA should abide by the K-12 Student, Family, and Teacher Responsibilities. Carefully review this document prior to Open House. The first day of school is Monday, August 18, 2025.
Please note:
The Main Office will be closed during Laptop Distribution/Registration days!
Students will be unable to pick up laptops at any other time before the start of the school year.
Those still in possession of a student laptop must return it!
All past fines and the laptop fee MUST BE paid BEFORE a student will be issued a laptop.
Upon arrival, please adhere to the following procedures:
Park in the front entrance lot OR student parking lot by the gym.
Enter the building using the main entrance. (NOW OPEN!)

Construction and Access to PCSVA
A lot of work has been completed over the summer on the facilities at PHS, with even more scheduled for completion before school starts on August 18. We are excited to announce that the main entrance to the building on Ridge Road will open on MONDAY, AUGUST 4! All visitors to the building should use this entrance moving forward! Visitor parking is available in the upper portion of the main office lot, with handicap parking available in the lower portion of the main office lot.
PCSVA Open House Thursday, August 7 (PHS Media Center)
Middle Grade Students- 5:30pm-6:30pm
High School Students- 6:30pm-7:30pm
PCS Virtual Academy is located on the 3rd floor of Person High School (1010 Ridge Road). For Open House, we will be in the Media Center of PHS. PCSVA students and families will enter through the Main Entrance of Person High School. Doors will open approximately 10 minutes prior to the start of the Open House times. Students will have the opportunity to check out their laptops, receive their schedules, and meet their teachers. We will also have a presentation with information about our policies and procedures for the coming school year.
One-to-One Laptop Initiative/ Maintenance Fee ($25.00)
We are fortunate to continue our one-to-one laptop initiative. Because the laptop agreement is part of online student registration, this must be completed before a student can have a laptop assigned. Students enrolled at PCSVA are required to have access to reliable Internet.
PCSVA will have GoGuardian, a content filtering and monitoring program, installed on all student computers. Users breaking the rules of the contract may have their privileges revoked.
Please note, your child is NOT enrolled with Person High School. That is only our shared physical location. All payments should be through PCS Virtual Academy.
Online School Fees
Person County Schools utilizes Online School Payments (OSP) for payment of ALL school-related fees. School Related Fees in Online School Payment (OSP) include Technology Use, Laptop Insurance, Laptop Damage and Repairs, Library Fees, Parking, Club/Organization Dues, etc.
Please be sure to click "Academy" in the menu then "PCSVA Virtual Academy". Your child DOES NOT attend PHS so please do not pay fees through "Person High".

Required Immunizations
N.C. Law now requires a Meningococcal booster dose for individuals entering the 12th grade or by
17 years of age, whichever comes first. Students who do not meet this requirement on the first day of school will be given a grace period of 30 calendar days. After 30 calendar days with no vaccination proof, students will be excluded from school until documentation is provided. Please send in proof of vaccination to Nurse West.
Every Minute Counts!
Every Minute Counts! Attendance matters now more than ever. Chronic absenteeism—missing 10% or more of the school year, regardless of the reason—puts students at academic and social risk. Research shows that even in early grades, frequent absences can make it hard to read on grade level, stay engaged, and ultimately graduate on time.
Our district, like many others nationwide, has seen an increase in chronic absences since the pandemic. As partners in education, we ask families to help us prioritize attendance by scheduling appointments outside of school hours, keeping routines consistent, and reaching out when challenges arise.
Together, we can ensure every child is present, supported, and ready to succeed—because every minute truly counts.
Let us know what challenges may be affecting your child’s attendance and how we can support you by completing this short form:

School Calendars

2025-2026 Calendar (Spanish)
Piedmont Community College Calendar
We align with the traditional school calendar with PCS; the first day for students is Monday, August 18, 2025. PCSVA utilizes the Google Workspace platform where teachers will instruct using both Google Meet and Google Classroom. Students enrolled in grades 9-12 also participate in courses through NC Schools of Science and Math. Courses for students who are enrolled at PCC will begin on Monday, August 18, 2025. PCSVA courses are asynchronous on Wednesdays.
Our program is designed to focus on effectively providing a high-quality, virtual learning environment for all students and we ask that families commit to being enrolled for the entire school year. Student engagement is critical in the virtual learning environment; therefore, students will be expected to keep their cameras on during synchronous (live) instruction with their teachers and peers. Attendance will be taken based on this policy. There will also be opportunities daily for students to work asynchronously and having parent/family support is strongly encouraged.
While we are able to instruct our students virtually, all district and state-mandated assessments will need to be conducted in person onsite at our location. Assessment schedules and detailed instructions will be provided in advance of each district and state-mandated assessment for 6-12 students.
