HAPPY CHILDREN'S DAY! 🎊

We kick-started our week of Children's Day celebrations with a generous donation of stationery sets and yummy brownies from our regular donor, Mr Erman. The stationery sets will definitely come in handy for our children who will be needing them for their final year examination, and also the new academic year ahead.

On Children's Day itself, our children attended a workshop on financial literacy run by volunteers from AIA's Elite Advisory Services. They were then treated to a special lunch of pizza by Mr Kumaran and cupcakes from Ms Kara of Early Educators United. It is always so heartwarming to see the wide smiles (yes we can still see it behind their masks ) on our children's faces when they receive the gifts.

We are truly blessed to have wonderful donors who go the extra mile to share their happiness with our children!

Volunteerism : Courage, Empathy & Generosity

Volunteerism is not rocket science. Neither is it like an academic subject to be studied. One does not need a complete understanding of the inner mechanics or the theories put forth by various schools of thought in order to volunteer effectively.

In fact, we would say that volunteerism can be distilled into something really simple and straightforward - courage, empathy and generosity.

Courage: To step out from one's comfort zone, such as interacting with children or assisting them to shop for groceries;

Empathy: To share the feelings of the children by putting ourselves in their shoes;

Generosity: Give generously, not just financially, but our time, our energy, our experiences and skill-set.

Our heart is full of gratitude for the 5 individuals who have stepped forward to sponsor and volunteer for our FRESH @ Clementi programme.

Sally, Hwee Ying, Soon Sum, Chee Hung and Wai Loon have not worked with children before. However, they were bold enough to venture out of their comfort zone to volunteer with us; displaying much empathy towards the needs of our children as they went around looking for groceries; and being generous with their time and energy. They could have chosen to spend their free time on a Friday afternoon cafe-hopping or catching a movie; but they had chosen to spend it on and with our children.

With that, we would like to say a big THANK YOU to them for demonstrating how simple volunteerism can be. We hope this inspires individuals who are thinking of taking the first step to start volunteering :)

CWW's new centre @ Bukit Merah! ❤

The staff of CWW are getting our new Centre at Bukit Merah ready for the children!

To enable as much of the donations as possible to flow directly to the beneficiaries, the staff are doing most of the work ourselves to reduce costs. Our bodies are tired but our hearts are full.

We are stocking the shelves of our new Centre with back-to-school essentials for the children! Thanks to the many generous donors, we are now able to support more beneficiaries and almost ready to welcome the new children!

If you would also like to donate new school supplies, granola bars, eggs, or bread, please contact us at info@wishingwell.org.sg

Look out for more updates over the next few weeks about our new Centre on CWW's Facebook and Instagram pages!

Give Lily a clean and safe home

Lily is an eight-year-old beneficiary of Children's Wishing Well (CWW). Her father is a lorry attendant while her mother is a Singaporean PR from Indonesia. She is a home maker and primary caregiver of their children, including their one year-old son. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, their financial situation got so dire that they had to feed their infant son tea as they could not afford to buy milk.

Lily's home is in poor condition. All their furniture are either donated or items they had picked up from around their neighbourhood. When the team at Children's Wishing Well conducted a home visit recently to assess their family's situation, a few matters required urgent intervention:

- Their dining table legs were visibly slanted but taped up to prevent it from breaking.

- Lily and her sisters' 'study desks' are actually TV boxes.

- The queen-sized bed in the girls' room is a discarded bed that they had picked up from their void deck, and they wrapped it with plastic and placed 2 bedsheets above it.

Lily's mother has plans to set aside the meagre savings she has to attend baking/cooking classes in order to start small home-based business. However, this is only possible if they have a proper kitchen.

Any contribution will go a long way to buying new, simple furniture and kitchen equipment to give Lily a safe and clean home to live and study in.

Your contribution counts!

1. Against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic, adaptability in the face of adversity is key and we have tweaked the services we provide to respond to the most pressing needs of our families. This includes preparing daily hot lunches for the children, and weekly provision of groceries for families. It is of utmost importance that no child goes hungry and always has something nutritious to eat. Any amount you contribute, big or small, will go a long way in supporting them, be it funding a hot meal or a tuition lesson. 2. To ensure that underprivileged children do not fall behind in their learning needs, we have started a fundraising campaign for laptops and broadband access to support them. As most of these children already lag behind in school, they will be further disadvantaged should they miss out on home-based learning. 3. Join us in combating food insecurity by providing groceries for our children and their families in this time of uncertainty! Support and share our online fundraising campaigns at - https://www.giving.sg/childrens-wishing-well/groceries_for_families_sgunited
