R10 MTSSNews Flasha R10 Multi Tier Systems of Support Service

Breaking News on Upcoming Trainings, Conferences, Webinars, etc.

Dear MTSS Family,

As you review these upcoming trainings, conferences and webinars, you may wonder "how" or "why' these topics are important to a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Model and your role.

You are being notified about them because each one plays a role in the Systems behind the MTSS Model. MTSS is truly about Prevention, Enrichment and Intervention for ALL Students, WHOLE Child as well as the SYSTEMS needed to grow ALL of the skill sets required for their post-secondary life.

I am going to make as many of these as I can to grow my own capacity. I hope to see you there.

3rd Annual R10 Coaching Conference For Instructional & Digital Coaches - October 29-30, 2019

WHEN

Tuesday, Oct. 29th, 8am to Wednesday, Oct. 30th, 4pm

WHERE

Plano Event Center 2000 East Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, TX, USA

MORE INFORMATION

Join us for two days of exploration, innovation, and learning led by successful practitioners and educational leaders across Region 10. Keynote speaker Dr. Gayle Allen will empower learners to pioneer change and effectively lead our schools in forward thinking and bridging the worlds of Instructional and Digital Coaching to best serve our students. Take advantage of two days of high quality sessions, enriching networking, and growing together!

Kimmie's Note: Coaches are boots on the ground and can do so much to build the capacity of others. Every type of instructional or digital coach should attend. I also believe in special education, dyslexia, and ESL teachers utilized as coaches to general education teachers. They should also attend. The only way we will get better of reaching ALL students, WHOLE child is if we utilize all of our staff efficiently and effectively. Food for thought: If you haven't seen growth with your students that are identified as SPED, Dyslexia, and/or ESL, is it because these specialists aren't seen as coaches?

Plano ISD is hosting a SEL Conference - November 4, 2019

Kimmie's Note: While this is not a Region 10 training and I'm not officially endorsing it, I will be attending this conference to expand my knowledge base on SEL implementation as it is a fundamental component of MTSS. Academic, Behavior and SEL are not silos with dotted line connections. They overlap and should work together to meet the needs of ALL Children, WHOLE Child.

For those unable to attend, the webinars will be recorded and posted to the website and questions can be submitted to sped@tea.texas.gov.

Kimmie's Note: I am possibly the biggest fan of the Texas Education Agency. I love the transparency. I also appreciate the steps taken to align us as a state and to provide as much support as needed through webinars, manuals, etc.

Migrant Quarterly Meeting - November 13, 2019

The Migrant Quarterly Meetings are designed to provide migrant educators and administrators with the latest TEA updates on information related to compliance and service delivery. In addition, Region 10 ESC migrant staff will be readily available to respond to your questions and provide you with immediate guidance and consultation related to these updates.

Kimmie's Note: I recommend general education teachers attend this meeting at least once as it can provide much needed clarity for all educators about migrant education. I have to admit I didn't know a lot about Migrant Education until I began working at Region 10. I'm ashamed to admit that, but transparency is something I hang my hat on.

R10 Annual Principal Conference - November 13, 2019

Targeted Audience: ISD, Charter, Private and Non-Profit Principals

Purpose: To inspire innovation, develop leadership and showcase Region 10 ESC best leadership practice.

Research shows that innovation is strongly linked to a principal’s digital connectivity.

This inspirational event will provide you and your leadership team with a great opportunity to network with other like-minded leaders; it will reveal some of the latest practices that are influencing the dynamic, disruptive changes taking place in education and provide you with a mindset to propel student learning forward.

The speakers will relate their success stories and enable you to apply similar principles in your school districts to reimagine the future for schools and student success.

What is innovation?
To be called an innovation, an idea must be replicable at an economical cost and must satisfy a specific need. Innovation involves the deliberate application of information, imagination, and initiative in deriving greater or different values from resources, and includes all the processes by which new ideas are generated and converted into useful products.

In education, innovation often results when ideas are applied by the leader in order to further satisfy the needs and expectations of the students.

Why attend?

Apply innovative and unconventional thinking to your leadership practices.
Engage, inspire and empower your professional learning community.
Understand the disruptive technology that is changing the way we do business.

Kimmie's Note: Change begins with Campus Administrators. Campus Administrators are the heartbeat of a MTSS Model.

R10 School-Wide Implementation and Support for SEL Systems - November 19, 2019

Participants, in collaboration with others, demonstrate skills to develop and implement practices and strategies to create and maintain effective and supportive learning environments for children and others.

Examples of professional practices include:

  • Using knowledge of universal screening programs to identify students in need of instructional and behavioral support services.
  • Promoting policies and practices that support effective discipline, instructional support, grading, home–school partnerships, student transitions, and more.
  • Collaborating with other school personnel to create and maintain a multi-tiered continuum of services to support academic, social, emotional, and behavioral goals for students.
  • Advocating for policies and practices that promote positive school environments.

Kimmie's Note: Social and Emotional Learning Systems are fundamental components to a sustainable MTSS Model. Without SEL Systems woven into your model, you will never gain traction with Academic and Behavior Growth.

R10 Learn on Location - December 9, 2019

Hey 3rd grade teachers! Here’s a Math and Reading TEKS specific training in the great outdoors. What better way to engage your students than through outdoor activities that bolster 3rd grade Math and Reading knowledge and skills? Come learn with us at the Dallas Arboretum Children’s Garden! Region 10 Teaching and Learning Consultants will guide you on an outdoor learning journey specifically geared toward 3rd grade Math and Reading TEKS. This is experiential and hands-on learning at its finest! The first part of the day will be spent outside with hands-on learning that will involve quite a bit of walking. The second part of the day will be a collaborative effort that forms a vision of how to bring the content of our day to the classroom. Come and Learn in the great outdoors.

Kimmie's Note: This is a wonderful way to bring learning alive to all students. I'm going register for this event. I do not like the outdoors and I do not like the cold, but I'm willing to overcome those two things that keep me from camping to learn about a way to actively engage students. The sacrifices I make for ALL Students, WHOLE Child.

R10 Leaving a Clear Trail - December 9, 2019

Earning a diploma signifies the completion of one’s education, but it is the Academic Achievement Record that tells the whole story. Participants will receive an overview of the relationship between state and district requirements for graduation, special education graduation options, rules for coding courses on the AAR, and documentation needed to accurately reflect a student’s high school education. Participants are encouraged to bring a copy of their districts course description guide.

Kimmie's Note: I encourage Counselors, SPED Directors, Curriculum Directors and CTE Coordinators to attend this training. This topic is an area that continues to have some misconceptions surrounding it. Special Education Students' Graduation Plan and their Post-Secondary Path options play a role in Accountability.

Region 10’s 3nd Annual CCMR Conference - February 28, 2020

Region 10’s 3nd annual CCMR Conference: Dual Credit, Early College, and CTE is quickly approaching! It will be held on Friday, February 28, 2020 at Region 10 ESC, Spring Valley Conference Center. The theme for this year's event is " Connecting Silos in Support of Student Success." We’re excited to partner with North Texas Community College Consortium addressing CCMR, Dual Credit, Early College and CTE in our schools.

Administrators, counselors, and teachers (not just CTE) are all encouraged to register to learn more about strategies that impact College, Career, and Military Readiness. When everyone is connected and working together, student’s succeed. The conference strands will be based off the needs of our stakeholders, examples include:

  • TSIA and College Prep Courses
  • Dual Credit and OnRamps Courses
  • Advanced Academic Supports (AP, IB, SAT, ACT)
  • Pathways to Careers/Industry Certification
  • Partnerships between secondary and post-secondary education
  • Strategies to maximize CCMR success
  • Social Emotional Learning
  • Mental Health Issues/Barriers to Success
  • Perkins V
  • Programs of Study for CTE

Kimmie's Note: Sometimes we get so wrapped up in STAAR and Accountability that we forget the main purpose of education. It's about taking little bitty children and helping them to transform to successful adults. It's like taking a caterpillar and helping them to become butterflies. This conference looks at how the supports, services and classes offered to students actually connect to help us with the metamorphosis of the caterpillar to the butterfly. CCMR begins in Early Childhood.

R10's Bilingual/ESL Annual Symposium - June 23-24, 2020

Kimmie's Note: The Power of Unity. I think the title sums it up beautifully. It takes everyone working together to help students to grow academically and personally. I can't wait to attend this conference.

Be on the lookout for more information.

R10's MTSS Institute 2020 - September 23-24, 2020

Kimmie's Note: We are in the early stages of planning the 2020 MTSS Institute. Dr. Sharon Vaughn has saved the date. We hope that you will too.

We will be sending out short surveys before the holidays to gather your feedback and ideas. We encourage you to share your thoughts. Please keep in mind that while the date of the 2020 MTSS Institute is not flexible due to trying to keep it at our new R10 Spring Valley Facility; how we design the conference is flexible.
