10.3.25 Family Message
Greetings Gearity Families:
We will have two safety drills next week. On Monday we will have our monthly fire drill. On Wednesday we will have a level 2 lockdown where students stay in their classroom and continue to work while the classroom door is locked and no one is in the halls. A level 2 lockdown is used when there is an issue in the community and we want to make sure nothing comes into the building. Please talk to your children about how we are building skills to help them stay safe and that they need to follow all adult directions to help keep them safe.
Attendance: As we begin the month of October, we currently have about 15% of our students who have missed 10% or more of the school year so far. If your child has missed 3 or more days they meet the standard for being chronically absent at this point in the school year. With regular attendance over the next several weeks, these students will drop off the chronic absenteeism list. I know that there have been some bugs going around early this year, but we need to make every effort to get your students to school. We can not education an empty seat! Our District partners with MetroHealth and one of the benefits they offer is vaccinations. You can click here to learn more about the program if you need help getting the flu or COVID vaccines.
Parent Teacher Conferences: The CHUH Schools schedule elementary conferences for the end of quarter 1 and quarter 3. Our Fall conferences will take place on October 23rd from 1pm - 7pm and October 24th from 8:30 - 11:45. Home room teachers will reach out in the next two weeks to schedule your conference. At the conference, the teacher will review your student's performance on beginning of the year nationally normed assessments and classroom based assessments. The teacher will also share information about your student's performance in class and discuss any supports that are needed to help them with mastering grade level standards. If you are unavailable during the conference dates, you can schedule a meeting with your children's teacher during their planning time throughout the school year. We are partners in your student's learning and look forward to developing a productive working relationship with your family.
PTA: Please consider joining the PTA! We are hosting an recruitment drive where the homeroom that has the most parents join the PTA will win an ice cream party. I just paid the $7.50 to join so the price is very reasonable. You do not need to attend all the meetings but we are asking that you consider volunteering for one of our PTA events this year. The next opportunity to volunteer is the Book Fair which will take place the week of the Math and Literacy Night! We need help with set up, the preview days, purchase days and break down.
