October was a busy and exciting month at Lincoln! Our students have done a wonderful job settling into school routines and showing their Lions Pride through our schoolwide expectations of Being Safe, Being Responsible and Being Respectful.

Many of our students recently had the opportunity to "show what they know" during our FastBridge and Capti assessments. We also had a fantastic time participating in the annual Anoka Halloween "Big Parade of Little People" on October 23rd!

Finally, we know that helping students develop a love for reading is one of the best ways to build lifelong learners. Here are a few simple ways families can help at home:

  • Encourage kids to read books they love for 15–20 minutes a day

  • Listen to your child read

  • Read aloud to kids of all ages

  • Share, make up, and tell stories together

Thank you for being such an important partner in your child's learning. The Lincoln community is truly the best!

Principal

Office Reminders Office Reminders

Early Dismissal

If you need to pick up your student early, please note that you do not need to call the school ahead of time. When you arrive, come directly to the main office (Door 1) to sign out your child. For our students' safety, you will be required to present your driver's license to be scanned by our office staff. Once your ID is verified, we will call your student down to the office to meet you. Please be sure to plan accordingly and be aware of your student's lunch and recess schedule, as it may take a few extra minutes to retrieve them during those times. Early pickups should be prior to 3:10 to avoid disrupting the end of day dismissal.

REMINDER: Beginning at 3:00 pm, there is no parking along the yellow curb in front of school. This space is reserved for our approved transportation vans.

The kindergarteners had so much fun watching the Big Parade of Little People! The kindergarten team dressed up as book characters, and the students enjoyed coming to our classrooms to hear each story!

We are kicking off our second unit in CKLA, See, Hear, Smell, Taste, Touch: The Five Senses. We will be using our 5 Senses to explore a pumpkin! In Bridge2Read, we will continue working on our letter sounds and will begin to add in some heart words, like I and a.

In math we will be learning to count by 2s to 20, add 1 & subtract 1 to numbers from 1-10, and compare & order numbers from 1-10. We will also explore even numbers as doubles and write equations to show sums up to 5.

On Monday, November 30th, we will be going back to the 50’s to celebrate the 50th day of Kindergarten! Kindergarteners will be encouraged to dress up 1950's style! We will have a fun day of learning!

During the month of November, our Character Strong focus will be gratitude. The kindergarteners will work to find ways to show how they are thankful for people and things in their lives.

As the weather starts to get cooler, please make sure your child is dressed to go out to recess each day!

October flew by faster than September! October was full of fun and there is so much more to come in the next few months! This month in October we explored new skills and this coming month will be no different. In math we are exploring addition and subtraction equations as well as completing our first class quilt and dipping our toes into money! In ELA we will be finishing up our Nose to our Toes unit about our body. Our next unit will be all about fairy tales from different cultures and places. Be on the look out for more information coming home! In writing we are still working on growing our skills in sentence writing as well as correct letter formation.

Just a few reminders, as the weather continues to change, please remember that ALL students are going outside everyday for recess unless it is raining. That being said, please send your student with the correct attire to keep warm and comfortable while playing outdoors for around 30 minutes. Please continue to send a water bottle for your student at school everyday as well as their take home folder!

As always, reach out to your student's teacher with any questions!

Happy October! Our Character Strong word of the month is Responsibility. During the month of October we will continue to work through Bridge2Read. We just wrapped up working on short vowel sounds and digraphs and are now beginning to focus on 2 letter blends. CKLA will focus on the Knowledge Strand to develop background knowledge, oral comprehension, and academic vocabulary in a wide array of topics across social studies, science, literature and the arts. During the month of October we will begin working on the second domain which will focus on The Birthplace of Democracy: Ancient Greece. This domain will introduce students to an ancient civilization whose contributions can be seen in many of our lives today

In Bridges we are practicing addition facts such as adding zero, counting on, adding ten, and adding nine to name a few. We are also collecting time in five minute increments or groups and learning about the differences between palmate and pinnate leaves.

What a wonderful month! So much happening! We finished our first unit in CKLA and in Math this month. We had our first long weekend. And of course who can leave out Halloween. What a great month in 3rd grade.

In CKLA we wrapped up our 1st Unit on Classic Stories and started Unit 2 on Fur, Fins, and Feathers: Animal Classification. This unit introduces students to the science of classification. Students will learn about five groups of vertebrates, why scientists classify animals into groups and the characteristics by which they make these determinations. We will also have the opportunity to write an informational writing piece in this unit. This is a fun unit the students enjoy a lot.

In math we wrapped up unit 1 and started unit 2. This is an exciting unit for 3rd graders as it introduces them to multiplication. When solving problems that are embedded in different contexts and that invite them to think of the operation in different watts, students make use of a variety of models for multiplication, including equal groups, arrays, the number line, and ratio table. We love this unit because the students are excited about multiplication.

So much learning and fun happening this month in 3rd grade!!

Greetings Fourthling Families!

We have moved into our second unit of Amplify CKLA- Knights and Castles: Europe's Middle Ages. This unit covers the history of the Middle Ages in Europe. It is primarily concerned with events in western Europe and the relationship between the Christian Church and the rulers of the region. Students practice taking notes on informational texts, paraphrase information, and write an informative, comparative paragraph. They also combine and expand sentences using conjunctions and appositives, and they generate cause and effect sentences.

In Math, we also started Unit 2: Multi-Digit Multiplication and Early Division. In this unit, students will continue to develop multiplicative reasoning as they work with multi-digit multiplication and early division.

Please continue to have your fourthling read 20-30 minutes each day.

Thursday, October 29 is our 3nd Annual Monster Mash! Our 1st graders are so excited to meet their monsters on Thursday, when WEB Leaders from Anoka Middle School for the Arts come to Lincoln for the presentation. There is nothing like seeing your idea come to life! And we love partnering with AMSA. Our Anoka community is strong!

Our first Arts Jam of the year is Tuesday, November 24. All students in grades K-5 participate in a day filled with arts classes taught by all of the teachers at Lincoln. It is an amazing day of exploration and creation, and needs a lot of volunteers to make it successful. If you are interested in helping, please contact Diana.Orr@ahschools.us.

Arts Book of the Month
For the month of October, I chose The Leaf Thief by Alice Hemming, illustrated by Nicola Slater. This story follows Squirrel as he tries to figure out where his leaves have gone. Take time to explore autumn with the arts. Listen to “Autumn” from Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, pretend to be a leaf as you go through its life cycle, make leaf rubbings, gather items from nature to create a collage, take photos of different colored leaves to try to capture the rainbow, or compare different famous autumn paintings.

The library is already a buzzing place, as we’ve implemented some new procedures to increase Lincoln’s book circulations. With the district focus on increasing literacy, the District Media Services is tracking school libraries’ check out statistics. For decades, research has shown that students who choose to read for pleasure, become more proficient readers in all settings. Choosing books of personal interest to read from a library is one way to provide those titles for pleasure reading.

Lincoln’s competitive spirit is shining though with our Library Bingo for grades 3-5 and students coming in everyday to return books and check out new ones! I’m already excited to see how Lincoln’s circulations will rise!

Voters to decide Permanent School Fund allocation formula on November 3

Along with casting votes for candidates for office this fall, ballots for voters in Anoka-Hennepin and across Minnesota will include a question that, if approved, would adjust the Minnesota Permanent School Fund to increase revenue for education without increasing property taxes.

What is it? The Permanent School Fund was formed when Minnesota became a state in 1858 as proceeds from land provided from the federal government were directed to fund public education for children as included in the state constitution. A change or amendment in the constitution requires a statewide vote.

Why it matters: The majority of revenue to operate Anoka-Hennepin Schools is provided by taxpayers at the state, national and local level. Permanent School Fund revenue is generated through timber sales, mining, land leases, and other resource activities generated by the 2.5 million acres of land and 1 million acres of mineral rights managed through the fund.

The question: The ballot question would increase the funding allocation from the PSF to 4.5% of proceeds, up from the current 2.5% allocation. For Anoka-Hennepin, this would result in an estimated $33 increase in per-pupil funding or $1.2 million annually. If not approved by voters, the fund would remain at its current allocation level, the land would remain in trust and operations would continue in their current format.

Review the fact sheet.

Go deeper: The ballot question was authorized by the Minnesota Legislature following a 134-0 vote in the House of Representatives and strong bi-partisan support in the Minnesota Senate. This action followed a recommendation from a non-partisan task force assigned to study and recommend updates to the allocation formula with the goal of providing a sustainable funding source to support Minnesota’s children in alignment with the original purpose of the fund.

Vote: In order to gain approval for a Minnesota constitutional amendment, a majority of all voters participating in the election would need to vote yes. If a voter leaves the question blank, it counts as a no vote.

Learn more: Detailed information is available at https://www.mnpsfamendment.org/.

_____

OFFICIAL BALLOT LANGUAGE

“Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to increase the funding going to all school districts from the permanent school fund, which is a fund that supports school districts without raising individual income or property taxes, effective July 1, 2027?”

Voters who bypass voting on the ballot measure are considered “no” votes.

Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC) Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC)

Parents/guardians invited to participate in Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC)

Parent/guardian representation is needed at upcoming Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC) meetings for the upcoming school year from families with students of all age levels - including early childhood, elementary, middle school, high school, and transition-aged students - with a full continuum of student disabilities.

How to get involved: Contact Mary Esch at 763-506-1362 or mary.esch@ahschools.us. Parents/guardians who wish to be part of SEAC are asked to make an effort to attend all meetings.

Meeting details: The focus and work of the group is driven by parents' interest in projects and resources that benefit all families of students served in special education.
