" GREAT TEACHERS EMPATHIZE WITH KIDS, RESPECT THEM, AND BELIEVE THAT EACH ONE HAS SOMETHING SPECIAL THAT CAN BE BUILT UPON. "
- Ann Lieberman
Good Afternoon, CUSD,
Happy Mother’s Day to all of our CUSD Moms!
There are a some fun opportunities to spend time with Mom this weekend - enjoy the beauty and grace of CoSA contemporary dancers as they take the stage at the Coronado Performing Arts Center in Moments Suspended tonight and tomorrow night; sip, shop, and stroll through the vibrant art booths at the annual Coronado Art & Wine Festival in the heart of Coronado tomorrow; or join the CHA Home Tour on Sunday.
A mom's (or dad’s) work is never done though… and when the fun is over, it’s time to get online and register your student for next year! Please register ASAP so that we can place your student on our class roster and accurately plan for staffing next school year. Register HERE!
Congratulations to our amazing CHS Islander spring sports teams and individuals - every team made it to CIF playoffs!! Best of luck to those still competing: Softball, Baseball, Girls Lacrosse, Boys Volleyball, and Track, Swim & Golf (individuals).
You may have read in the news about a cyber attack on the Canvas learning management system. While CUSD uses Canvas, we have not been notified directly of any security breach on our system. We did, however, experience a short period of time this week when the system was offline. If there is any further update specific to CUSD an email notification will be sent.
As we conclude Staff Appreciation Week, I would like to thank our PTOs and everyone who showed appreciation for our amazing staff with treats, lunches, and messages of gratitude. I would also like to recognize the incredible staff in our district who show up every day to support our mission of providing every child, every day, with a Connection, a Challenge, and a Champion…thank you.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Respectfully,
Karl J. Mueller

Ed Tech Parent Series
SDCOE is excited to announce the upcoming Educational Technology Parent Series, a free virtual learning opportunity open to all parents and educators across our region. This series is designed to support families and school communities in navigating educational technology and resources that empower student success.
As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments. What a positive testament to our CUSD family!
- A huge shout out to Brittany Lindquist and Sarah Hunsaker for the countless ways they support our school community. Their dedication, leadership, and willingness to step in wherever needed help ensure that everyone feels supported, valued, and heard. They spend so much time behind the scenes helping others, problem solving, and doing whatever it takes to support a positive and collaborative school culture. We are incredibly grateful for the care, time, and heart they pour into our school each and every day! Village Elementary is lucky to have you both!
- Sarah Yakutis is thoughtful, analytical, and diplomatic. Since I arrived in CUSD, I've noticed how she plays the important role of "connective tissue" between science departments at multiple schools and between schools and the district office. Apart from trying to find the best tools to support our work, she also finds excellent resources to share with us -- including starting a science book club as we grow in our practice. I've really appreciated her support.
- Lindsey Cummins consistently go out of her way to make others feel seen and appreciated and it is truly special. After I mentioned how much I loved the flowers she brought me from Silver Strand’s garden, she didn't just stop at a kind gesture—Lindsey actually followed up by sending me seeds so I could grow them in my own garden! It’s these personal, "above and beyond" touches that make working with her such a joy. Thank you for your kindness and for literally helping me grow some beauty at home!
Click here to recognize an employee or volunteer who goes above and beyond to make a difference. Those who are "caught" will receive a copy of the positive words that were shared about them and a "Caught Being Awesome" decal. Please take a minute or two to brighten someone else's day!
