What's Going On This Month
ERC Charities Gala Honors Second Home Client
On January 31, the ERC Charities' Second Annual Gala recognized Second Home for the special work done at our program, and one of our clients was honored with the Michael De Vito Jr. Scholarship. Unfortunately, our honoree was unable to attend and celebrated from afar. Thank you to Dr. Brad Haimowitz for accepting on their behalf. It was a beautiful night in celebration individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Second Home is grateful for this honor and partnership!
More information about the ERC Charities can be found on their website.
Activities
Clients apply their culinary skills and make personal english muffin pizzas.
Clients have opportunities to work with various therapists to enhance their functional skills. One of our OTs, Ms. Tina-Marie, works with a client to fold socks.
Clients fill virtual orders to practice their skills.
Functional Highlight: Hygiene and Grooming
This month, the clients worked toward developing their personal hygiene and grooming skills. Over the course of the month, clients developed their vocabulary, matched, sequenced, and applied their skills. Hygienic practices are always encouraged throughout the components of the day and were further reinforced during this functional focus. Good hygiene is an essential pre-employment skill!

Mists of Warmth
As we enter March, we start the transition to spring. As the weather rolls in the warmth, many
opportunities become available. At this time people begin to get out more frequently for a simple
walk in the park or attending events. One such event is St. Patrick's day that brings social
gatherings and parties. March also holds many different types of awareness throughout the
month like cerebral palsy. Like other disabilities, cerebral palsy affects millions of people. That is
why every year, especially this month, many people like myself fight to find a cure so the future
generation will never have to suffer with this disability.
