ETHICS IN SCIENCE! At the Fleet Science Center, FREE! February 5th!
WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT ETHICS IN SCIENCE?
Would you like to be involved in helping widen the discussion around ethics in scientific research? The NGSS framework includes "Science as a Human Endeavor." The Center for Ethics in Science and Technology would like your help in bringing their work to teachers. Please take a look at this quick survey to become involved, or simply give us a few minutes of your time to provide input. Let your voice be heard! Two Scientists Walk Into a Bar—Climate Change Edition
MARCH 10, 6 to 8 p.m.
https://www.rhfleet.org/events/two-scientists-walk-bar
Join the Fleet Science Center and UC San Diego to learn more about the effects of climate change. Only 24% of respondents in a recent poll said they believe climate change will have a great impact on them. Join the Fleet Science Center and UC San Diego experts to learn about the many obvious and not-so-obvious ways climate change will likely touch all our lives — everything from more extreme natural disasters to health issues, water quality concerns and even financial impacts — and what we can do about it.
Areas of conversation will include, but are not limited to:
- Health impact of climate change
- Local flood risk and coastal management (Mission Bay)
- Ocean acidification and its impact on coral reefs
- Recyclable technologies for energy storage
3/10/2020, 6 to 8 p.m.

CAST Practice Available!
Refreshed practice and training tests for the California Science Test (CAST), which students, parents/guardians, and classroom teachers can access to help them become more familiar with questions on the CAST. Both the practice and training tests are grade-specific (i.e., grade five, grade eight, and high school). The practice tests include three performance tasks—one from each of the science domains (i.e., Earth and Space Sciences, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences)—and mirror the depth and breadth of the content from the operational test. The training tests are available to acquaint students with the different item types.
These practice and training tests feature all the accessibility resources on the operational CAST. Be sure to help your students access the tests so they may be ready to take the CAST this spring!
