Application Week: October 27 - October 30
With application season in full swing and many early application deadlines on November 1st and 15th, the College & Career Center has put together a week to support application completion. During this week students will find different kinds of events including:
- Instant Admissions - During these events, some students will be able to receive a decision directly from the university on the spot, while others may receive personal information on additional documentation that is needed before a decision can be made. In order to have transcripts available, students should register for the events in advance.
- Application Workshop - These events offer dedicated time to work on school specific applications. It's helpful to have drafts of your essays and activities available for review.
- Feedback/Review Sessions - Students will get feedback on specific parts of their application (essays or art portfolio respectively) from college admission representatives.
Seniors can begin registering for events HERE!
Senior Presentation
The Senior Presentation is required of all standard diploma students to complete the Career Education graduation requirement. This presentation allows students to reflect on their growth and experiences in high school, and share what has led them to their plans after graduation. These details were shared during the senior meeting on September 25th.
Students will present during the first 30/45 minutes of 8th period on Monday, December 9th and Wednesday, December 11th. Details regarding which day students will be presenting will be shared before Fall Break at the end of November to ensure students who work can adjust their schedules.
Below you will find details about the senior presentation and what questions should be answered. You will also find a slideshow template students can use if they do not want to create their own presentation. If students have any questions, they are welcome to meet with Ms. James or drop in the College & Career Center.

Important Deadlines
There are different types of admission deadlines.
- Early Decision (ED) - An Early Decision deadline is a binding admissions decision which tells the school that if you are excepted you will attend that school. You can only submit ONE Early Decision application. ED deadlines typically are November 1st or November 15th of the students senior year and students are notified of their admission decision mid-December.
- Early Action (EA) - An Early Action deadline is a non-binding admission decision which allows you to find out your admission decision earlier than a Regular Decision deadline. EA deadlines typically are November 1st or November 15th of the students senior year and students are notified of their admission decision mid-December.
- Restrictive Early Action (REA) - Similar to Early action, Restrictive Early Action allows students to apply early and receive a non-binding admission decision. Unlike Early Action, REA limits where else you can apply early. While policies vary by school, most REA programs prohibit you from applying to other private colleges under Early Action or Early Decision plans. However, you can usually still apply to: public universities with non-binding early action, international universities, and rolling admissions schools
- Regular Decision (RD) - A Regular Decision deadline is the latest deadline for most institutions. RD deadlines typically range from mid-December to mid-November of the students senior year and students are notified of their admission decision mid-March.
- Rolling Admissions - There are some schools that do not have any of the above deadlines but rather allow students to apply at any time and provide an admissions decision within 2-4 weeks of the students application being complete.
REMEMBER: College admission deadlines vary widely from school to school so it is important that you are tracking the deadlines for each institution you plan to apply to.

Financial Aid and Scholarships
Financial Aid Applications
FAFSA/ORSAA - Open now!
To be eligible for most types of financial aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Oregon Student Aid Application (ORSAA). These applications compile financial information and other details about students and families, which the US Department of Education and the State of Oregon use to determine financial need and eligibility for various financial aid opportunities.
- Who files the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, (FAFSA)? United States citizens and eligible noncitizens.
- Who files the Oregon Student Aid Application (ORSAA)? Oregon residents who are undocumented, or have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) or Temporary Protected Status (TPS).
- Not sure which one to file? Take the quiz.
The CSS Profile
The CSS Profile is an additional online application that collects information used by nearly 400 colleges and scholarship programs to award non-federal aid. Visit their site to see which colleges ask for the CSS profile.
Oregon Promise Application OPEN
The Oregon Promise is a state grant that helps cover tuition costs at any Oregon community college for recent high school graduates and GED® test graduates. Students must apply during their senior year or immediately after GED® test completion. The application opened in September 2025 for students who graduated between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026.
To be eligible for Oregon Promise students must:
- Graduate from an Oregon High School with a 2.0 GPA or higher
- Submit the FAFSA or ORSAA financial aid application
- Live in Oregon for at least 12 months by the time they enroll at community college
Apply for this grant opportunity on the Oregon Student Aid Website!
Scholarships
Applying for scholarships can be one of the most complex parts of Financial Aid. Students are encouraged to pursue as many scholarship opportunities as possible that are available to them at the career/technical program, colleges, or universities to which they are applying. This is often the biggest source of scholarship money available to students.
OSAC also has a scholarship database with over 500 scholarships. Students can apply for up to 40 scholarships with their one application. To learn more about the scholarships available through OSAC, consider visiting the OSAC scholarship website.
There are also many private foundations that individually offer scholarships to students. The qualifications and applications for these scholarships can vary widely. Students and families are encouraged to carefully research the scholarship opportunities available through foundations and to remember that they should never have to pay to apply to a scholarship.
Oregon’s Gear Up program has collated a list of scholarships through their Oregon Goes to College program. Consider reviewing their website to learn more about potential scholarship opportunities.
