A Week Full of Joy and Learning

What a wonderfully full and happy week it’s been! We’ve been so busy enjoying one another and all the learning happening that it’s hard to slow down long enough to write about it—but the joy has been impossible to miss.

Students and staff lit up with free ice cream treats at the Creamery, sharing a sweet moment of pure celebration that strengthened our sense of community and belonging. Mid level math students (5-8) got hands-on and a little delicious in math while baking cookies, practicing measurement and teamwork in a way that made learning feel joyful and cooperative.

During the bio blitz in Environmental Ed K-8 students explored the outdoors with curious eyes and careful observation, growing both their scientific thinking and a sense of responsibility and care for the natural world.

And at today’s ASG they were captivated by the Lynx Lab Players’ performance of Macbeth, where story, language, courage, and empathy came beautifully to life through collaboration and self-expression.

Woven through it all is the everyday magic of children learning to read, write, and think—growing more confident, kind, and capable every day. These moments of laughter, curiosity, and connection bring our vision to life: a joyful community where we learn and care for one another while living out the Responsive Classroom values of cooperation, empathy, responsibility, and self-control.

Thank you for sharing your kiddos with us.

It truly takes a community to make a small school thrive! From committee work and helping host school events to lending a hand in the classroom or tackling a maintenance project, our volunteers make a meaningful difference in the daily life of GES. Your time, talents, and generosity help create the special place our school community has become.

Recently , Ashley Claire introduced several classes to the work of Pablo Picasso and different styles of 3D art. Students then got hands-on with air-dry clay and Wikki Sticks, creating their own original pieces. These kinds of creative experiences are even richer when we have parent volunteers helping in the classroom—if you’re able to lend a hand with projects or other activities, we’d love to have you!

Looking for a way to get involved? Whether you have an hour to spare, a special skill to share, or simply a willingness to lend a hand, there are opportunities to make a difference. Check out the opportunities below and see if something might be right up your alley. We would love to have you join us!

HELP WANTED: Roof Vent OdorHog Installers

We’re looking for a handy parent or two to install OdorHog charcoal filters on the school’s roof plumbing vents. The job is straightforward (slip-on or simple clamp-on), but it does require getting up on the roof.

Skills needed: Comfortable on ladders and roofs, basic hand-tool ability (screwdriver), ability to follow simple instructions, and not afraid of heights. No prior plumbing experience required.

Have a Fridge to Spare?

Good news! GES has received a grant to help provide healthy snacks for our learners. Now we just need a place to keep them fresh! We're looking for a donated refrigerator to give our healthy snack program a home.

Do you have a spare garage fridge that's ready for a new adventure? We'd love to give it a second life at GES! If you have one you'd be willing to donate, please reach out. Thank you for helping us keep our learners fueled and ready to learn!

HELP WANTED: Accessory Building Organizers & Inventory Crew

We need individuals to help sort, organize, and inventory everything stored in the accessory building.

Skills needed: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to lift and move boxes/equipment, and comfort working in a storage space. Experience with spreadsheets or labeling systems is a plus.
