Salford Hills has been quite a busy place this summer. We are thankful for the hard work of the construction crews that are working to be make our building a better place for our students, teachers, and families!

Salford Hills was built in 1953, and has gone through several renovations between then and now. This renovation is certainly the largest to date! The renovation project is expected to last through January of 2027. This project includes many upgrades that will help Salford Hills deliver quality instruction to all of our students. Some of these renovations include:

  • An addition on the back of the building that will hold a new library.
  • New HVAC and plumbing
  • LED lighting inside and outside the building
  • Renovations to all the classroom spaces and new flooring
  • Better utilization of the current space
  • New kitchen to serve food
  • New spaces for music, art, library, tech, and upgrades to the gym.

This project will be done in phases throughout the next two years. The first phase is our first grade hallway, kitchen, and nurse's office. The construction crews are diligently working, and we expect to have this space ready to accept students for the start of the school year! As students return to school, the construction of the addition will continue in the rear of the building with students still having access to the play structures for recess, as well as the field area. Once the addition phase is complete, the next phase will begin, which will be the second grade hallway, hopefully in April.

The kitchen area where food is prepared for the students is expected to be completed by November. During this time, food will be prepared at another SASD kitchen and shipped over to Salford Hills so that students can still purchase lunch if they choose to do so. Each day one hot and two cold lunches will be offered. Students can also choose to pack their lunch if they prefer that option. Cold breakfast items will still be offered in the morning for students who choose to eat breakfast at school.

Overall, we are looking forward to the project and the new spaces it will offer our students and families.

Student Placements Available Friday, Aug. 15th at 4:00pm

August 15th is the day that families can view teacher placement for the new school year. At 4:00 PM, information is available in Home Access Center on the SASD website using your login credentials. Follow the link below this message. NOTE: Your login credentials will NOT work until the system goes live at 4:00 PM.

Student placement is determined and reviewed by a team of professionals including your child’s former teacher(s), school counselor, student support teacher, reading specialist, and myself. Each child’s academic ability and performance, social and emotional growth, and needs are discussed, as well as peer relationships. Through this process, we strive to create heterogeneous classes that function as cohesive groups and provide each child with an educational environment best suited to meet his or her needs. Therefore, we ask that you respect our professional judgement, and be assured that we will strive to make the most appropriate placement for your child.

In advance, I thank you for your trust in an educational system that cares about your child and families at large.

Respectfully,

Todd J. Burns

Salford Hills Welcomes our New Families for the 25-26 School Year

Welcome to Salford Hills Elementary School! We look forward to you joining our Salford Hills Family! We will be having an orientation for parents and children who will be in grades 1-5 on August 20, 2025 at 6:30pm. Kindergarten students will have their own separate orientation on August 21st at 4:00.

Our New Family Orientation for students in grades 1-5 new to Salford Hills will include an information session and a brief tour of the school depending on construction safety at the time.

Kindergarten Orientation Kindergarten Orientation

Our kindergarten students and families will have their Kindergarten Orientation on August 21st from 4:00-5:00. This will be an opportunity for kindergarten students and their families to come see their classroom, and drop off any school materials they might have so they are not lugging a heavy backpack on the first day of school. Kindergarten students will also be able to pick up their special first day of school t-shirt! Kindergarten students will wear this shirt on the first day of school so that our staff can pick them out right off the bus and car rider line and get them to their classrooms safely. This event is meant to be a casual visit between 4:00 and 5:00. Stay for as long or as little as you need to in order to make your child feel comfortable and ready for the first day of school.

THANK YOU to all the students, parents, and teachers who helped Salford Hills have another successful C.R.O.P.S Garden this summer! The harvest this year was plentiful, and able to benefit local organizations such as the Keystone Opportunity Center. Our Garden Swaps this year also included time for a quick story, or time to pick out a new book to read over the summer. Again, thank you to EVERYONE who was able to come out and help!
