CCMR & 2023 Accountability
Since changes to CCMR are likely to occur with the 2023 Accountability Refresh, we will not be hosting our annual CCMR conference this February. The final 2023 Accountability Manual is expected to be published in Summer 2023, so we will explore a relaunch of our CCMR conference in Fall 2023.
TEA released in TAA correspondence the updated 2023 A-F Accountability System Framework.

GIFTED & TALENTED
Region 10's gifted and talented program is a separate cooperative focused on the individual academic and emotional needs of identified GT students
The State Plan for the Education of Gifted Students "Bites"
The State Plan requires that districts provide "an array of appropriately challenging learning experiences in each of the four foundation curricular areas" in grades K-12. (19 TAC §89.3). Identified students should receive services during the school day and throughout the school year, with kindergarten being the only exception, as schools typically don't begin servicing kindergarten students until the spring. According to TEA, gifted students should be afforded flexible pacing, acceleration, opportunities to pursue their areas of passion, and schedule modifications if necessary, to meet their learning needs. Most importantly, teachers are expected to differentiate for their gifted students, adapting and/or modifying "the core or standard curriculum to meet the needs of gifted/talented students." (4.9) Also a necessary part of our gifted students' education is to address their social and emotional learning needs, from kindergarten all the way through high school (3.11). This aspect of GT program design sometimes get left out at the secondary level. For more information on the social and emotional needs of gifted students, please visit SENG's (Supporting Emotional Needs of Gifted) resource library, with 100's of articles written by mental health professionals and educators in the field.
