School News
We are so excited to kick off a new school year. Vista Unified is partnering with the School News team to expand our communication efforts through the publication of a fall and spring edition magazine that highlights every school in our district. The fall edition features all 27 principals sharing a brief overview of the instructional program offered at each school in the district. Check out the digital publication below. Highlighting our Values
Our students and staff have had a strong start to the school year. We welcomed families during Back-to-School Nights across the district. Students of all ages are already progressing well into their studies. In concert with our collective focus on building academic strength in every student across all grade levels, we are also deepening our commitment to our values as a learning organization. The five values we have adopted as a district apply to everyone in the organization whether you are a student, teacher, staff member, or community member. How we treat each other sets the foundation for the learning environment. Our value of RESPECT highlights the importance of knowing, valuing, and treating all with dignity. Collectively, we TRUST that every decision focuses on the best interest of our learners through transparency, honest communication, and integrity. When we work together through COLLABORATION, we create a culture of continuous improvement, working in partnership with students, families, staff, and the community. Striving for EQUITY in our schools values diversity and ensures access and resources for all students based on their individual needs. Perhaps most importantly of all, KINDNESS should serve as the backbone of our community. This one word, if practiced always, will lead to a compassionate, nurturing, and supportive learning environment. Please join me in modeling our district values every day.
Ready, Set…Read!
The Power of Reading
Vista Unified is pleased to continue supporting your child’s reading and writing skills using methods backed by research. Our teachers are using proven practices to help students become confident readers by building both word recognition skills and understanding of language—key steps toward strong reading comprehension. Reading at home also helps your child continue to expand their joy of reading. Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15 – October 15, 2025
Vista Unified is proud to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, honoring the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic communities that enrich our schools and neighborhoods.
From September 15 to October 15, students will explore themes related to history, culture, arts and storytelling, leadership and achievements, and family traditions—all connected to the lasting contributions of the Hispanic community. These contributions make Vista Unified a stronger, more vibrant, and inclusive district.
Throughout the month, schools will host a variety of events and experiences designed to honor Hispanic heritage, engage students in meaningful learning, and recognize the achievements that make Vista Unified stronger. Families are invited to participate by engaging with schools in ways that celebrate Hispanic heritage, support student learning, and reflect the richness of our community.
Together, we honor the legacy of the past, celebrate the voices and achievements of today, and inspire the leaders of tomorrow.

Bike Safety – Updates for 2025–2026
In response to feedback from parents, community members, and law enforcement, the District has updated its Bike Safety Protocol for the 2025–26 school year. Key changes include clearer guidance in the “Enforcement & Safety” section outlining unsafe behaviors, as well as updates to the “Understanding E-Bikes” section to help families distinguish between legal and illegal e-bikes for youth. The revised protocol will take effect on October 15, 2025. Families with students registered to ride e-bikes to and from school will also receive a direct communication. In addition, parent forums will be held at middle and high schools to answer questions and provide resources on safe riding practices. Please note that students who do not follow the updated safety protocols will be subject to consequences, as these measures are essential to maintaining a safe environment for all. For additional information about Bike Safety, please visit our Bike Education website.
