Community Compass Vol. 9
Q1 Week 9 Oct 6-10

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
We have a short but important week ahead! Thank you to our parents for treating our staff to lunch on Friday and for helping us celebrate our amazing custodians for National Custodial Day.
A reminder: school will be closed this Thursday, Friday, and Monday (October 13). We’ll return on Tuesday, October 14.
Students in grades 3–5 will be taking their quarterly assessments this Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Please help us by ensuring they are here on time and ready to learn each day.
And don’t miss the great photos at the bottom of this week’s Compass — lots of good moments captured! :P

“A Tradition of D.O.G.S.” 🐾
Last year, Mr. Sullivan unknowingly started something special. As the very first Watch D.O.G.S. of the year, he set the tone for what it means to be a dad who shows up for his child and his school. This year, without missing a beat, he carried on that tradition by once again being the first to put on the Watch D.O.G.S. shirt. What started as a coincidence has now become an expectation — a family tradition rooted in love, presence, and community.
Thank you, Mr. Sullivan, for reminding us that dads can be just as involved as anyone else in the everyday learning and joy of their child.

It's True...We Really Do Have the Best Custodians
Our custodians are the absolute best in Dallas ISD, and National Custodian Day gave us a chance to show just how much we appreciate them. Our front office team surprised them with flowers and thoughtful gifts, and our generous parents supplied cookies and other sweet treats.
To top it off, we brought back the celebration parade we started last year, with students lining the halls, holding up homemade signs and cheering for the people who keep our school clean and welcoming every day. It was a wonderful way to end the week and honor the hard work, warm smiles, and tireless dedication of our custodial team.
NEW INFORMATION
Dallas ISD schools will be closed next week on Oct. 9 and 10 for fall break. Students return to class on Oct. 14.

National School Lunch Week October 13-17
You’re invited to pack your bags and travel with us as your student participates in National School Lunch Week, October 13–17, 2025.
This year, the Texas Department of Agriculture and your child’s school nutrition team are using the theme “Texas Taste Tour: Your School Lunch Passport” to showcase nutritious meals served at school and healthy foods from Texas. Celebrating National School Lunch Week can introduce students to the many ways balanced, nutritious school meals help fuel success.
School nutrition professionals work hard to serve lunches that keep students ready to embark on academic adventures throughout the school day. Come along for the journey by encouraging your child to eat lunch in the cafeteria this week.

Lipscomb Welcomes Bank of America Dallas President Jennifer Chandler!
Chandler serves as managing director and president for Bank of America in Dallas and head of philanthropic solutions . As part of Principal for a Day—which brings community leaders into our schools to increase understanding of our students’ needs and build lasting partnerships —she will shadow our leadership team, visit classrooms, and meet students and teachers.
We look forward to welcoming her, sharing our school’s story, and learning from her experience and passion for community service.
TEA 2023 School Report Card Parent Notification
Each year the state creates a School Report Card to communicate to parents, guardians and the
community information concerning accountability. This is a report required by the Texas Legislature and prepared by the Texas Education Agency. Due to judicial proceedings, the release of the 2023 School Report Card was significantly delayed.
State law requires that the School Report Card display information about the state, the district, and
the school. Where possible, the information must be reported by race/ethnicity and socioeconomic
status of the students and must include at least two years of results.
The School Report Cards can be found online at: https://rptsvr1.tea.texas.gov/perfreport/src/src_srch.html
A more complete report about our school, the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR), can be
accessed online at: https://tea.texas.gov/texas-schools/accountability/academicaccountability/performance-reporting/texas-academic-performance-reports
This “report card” is for the campus, not for individual students. If you are not able to access the
internet and would like a paper copy, or if you have questions, please contact the school office.
Bond Updates
We’re excited to share that new landscaping has been installed in front of our building, giving our campus a welcoming new look. This landscaping work is one piece of our campus improvements funded through the Dallas ISD bond program, which also includes a new connector addition that will link the main building to the cafeteria and gym and upgrades to classrooms, lighting, security and site drainage . Construction will continue in phases, with the majority of work happening between now and December 2025; by January 2026 we expect all renovated classrooms and the connector to be complete and ready for students.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Student Activities
We’ve listened to your feedback about after-school clubs and know that sometimes the experience has felt inconsistent. Our goal is to make it easier for families to see what’s available and for students to find the activities that fit them best.
Because Lipscomb is a smaller school, many of our teachers and staff already wear multiple hats every day. Hosting a club is something they choose to do on top of their regular responsibilities, often giving their own time to make sure students have opportunities to explore their passions. While a few clubs come with district stipends, most are led purely out of our staff’s dedication to our Pride. Their willingness to step up is what makes so much possible here, and we are deeply grateful.
Below, you will see our 2025-2026 Club Catalogue that contains our offerings:
Student Ambassador Applications Open Wednesday, October 1
Student Ambassadors are a group of 3rd – 5th grade leaders chosen to represent our school with pride! These students model the IB Learner Profile, welcome visitors, help with school events, and share their voices in making our campus a better place. By serving as ambassadors, they develop the following Approaches to Learning: responsibility, teamwork, and communication skills while showing what it means to be a leader in our learning community.
THERE IS AN APPLICATION & INTERVIEW PROCESS!
Applications will go live on October 1, 2025 following morning announcements.
