Message from the Principal Message from the Principal

At the end of recess each day, students hustle to a designated spot for their class, where their teacher meets them. They stand in line spots so we can easily ensure that we have everybody; their bodies cool, calm and collected as they prepare to re-enter the building. This takes practice; sometimes a lot of practice. One day last week, Mrs. C and I noticed that our kinders just...did it. No need for reminders or re-teaching, no need to explain why it matters. No calls over the radio that someone wasn't there yet, or responses that they were sloooowly making their way over from the swings. Because they know. And they're ready for first grade.

In partnership,

Nadya

Staffing Update Staffing Update

  • New adventures: Kerry Burns-Collins is retiring; next year she plans to travel and read lots of great books! Sierra Thornton will bring a calm, cool, collected presence to PE classes at MUMS. Kate Cunningham is taking on a role as after school coordinator, as ACSD figures out what that means, and will still teach general music and chorus at Cornwall.

  • New folks: Skyler LaFerrier will join Cornwall School from MUMS. Ms. T introduced Mr. LaFerrier to our students and our routines last week. Sarah Metcalf will return to Cornwall for instrumental. A hiring committee of Nadya, Mindy and Claire worked with Salisbury, Bridport and Mary Hogan folks to interview candidates, including for our 4th grade position, and made a recommendation to Wendy Baker. Dr. Baker made an offer to an experienced 4th grade teacher, they have accepted the spot at Cornwall! New hires must be approved by the board, and the process requires that we not "announce" before then. We CAN, however, say that we're thrilled.

Ways to help Cornwall School Ways to help Cornwall School

Beach toys, baseballs and mitts

We are replenishing our playground options. If you have gently used beach toys for the sandbox, baseball mitts or baseballs to donate, we'll take 'em!

Starts and seeds needed

Our vegetable gardens are ready for planting! If you have extra starts (already hardened off, please!) or seeds, we will gladly take them.

Gently used shoes and clothes needed!

  • Pants & Shorts - size 8-10, 10-12, and 14
  • Sneakers size 1, 2, and larger

Laundry!

We have many shared winter items that have taken a beating this mud season. If laundry is your thing, grab a bag from the school, wash and dry it, return (ideally in a clean bag) and we will store it until next winter! Or until the next snowfall!
