Children's Day 2021

This October was a special month as we celebrated Children's Day from afar!

Children's Day is a dedicated day to come together and celebrate the children around us. While we were not able to hold any physical celebrations here at Wishing Well due to the ongoing restrictions, we still tried our best to spread joy to our beneficiaries.

With the help of volunteers, we prepared and delivered gift packs to the children's homes; giving them a new school bag, stationery items, school supplies and so on. It was heartening to see how excited they were and we hope this gift will remind them of how much we care.

We hope that you got a chance the spend time with the children in your lives and remind them of how loved and special they are:)

Fun Fact: Did you know Singapore has been celebrating Children's Day since 1961? (Yes that is even before independence!)

Showing gratitude for our childhood

In line with the month of Children's Day, we ran a simple exercise on social media to get our followers to reflect on their childhoods with a Childhood Privilege Checklist.

We welcome you to take some time to reflect on the checklist below too.

Attending kindergarten or spending weekends on sports/dance/music may have been the norm for many of us. We may have even grown up dreading enrichment classes or hating fruits and vegetables.

However, the reality is, many children at Children's Wishing Well do not even have access to these resources and opportunities. So we hope this exercise gives us the chance to appreciate what we have, acknowledge our invisible privileges and do what we can to give back.

Let us work together and aim for a future where all children have access to the best resources regardless of their background. Every child truly deserves this:)

World Mental Health Day

Another important day that was celebrated this month of October was World Mental Health Day. World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on 10 October to raise awareness and educate people on the importance of Mental Health.

Mental Wellness is a priority at Children's Wishing Well. We know that in order to take care of the children, the staff first need to take care of ourselves. That is why we took turns to spend a day off doing our favorite things such as go to the beach, hiking, going for a spa, watching k dramas and so on!

We came back from the break recharged and refreshed to serve our community better:)

Apart from staff mental wellness, we also cannot undermine or forget the mental wellness of the children around us. That is why we put together 3 simple tips for parents and adults to support your child's mental wellbeing.

We hope that you, our reader, will also remember to prioritize your own mental health and continue to support the well-being of the children around you.

Be our ally; Help us grow our Social Media presence!

One of the simplest and most effective ways of being our ally is following us Social Media and sharing about our work and cause with your loved ones.

Poverty and inequality are very real issues that we see in the families we support. Children and youth growing up in such disadvantageous backgrounds are often bright but lack the support and resources to become their best selves.

As we continue to raise awareness of this through our platforms, it would be great if you (and your friends and families) could join us to spread the word.
