Honoring Veterans at RJH
On Tuesday, November 10, we will be honoring veterans at an assembly, which will feature Joe Byron from Honor Flight New England. The Honor Flight Network is a national non-profit organization that transports senior veterans to Washington DC at no cost to the individual. This allows our veterans the opportunity to visit their memorials, with a specific focus on veterans of WWII and the Korean War.
Additionally, we invite our RJH community to share your family veteran story. Please see the above information to add to our slideshow, so we can appreciate all veterans that are connected with RJH.
Our Veterans Day assembly is open to any community member who would like to attend.
Admin Hold
As the year progresses, your child may come home and say there was an 'admin hold' at school. An admin hold is a call for the entire school to remain in their classrooms for a short period of time. Generally, an admin hold is initiated because someone at RJH is experiencing a medical event, and the admin hold allows that person to retain their privacy and dignity.
All students have heard about an admin hold, know what to do, and understand the purpose behind it. They also know that they are not in any danger. To help them understand, I ask students to imagine that they fell in the hall, hit their head, and started crying because it hurt. Everyone agrees that they would prefer to have some privacy in that moment when they don't feel well and may not appear at their best. While we don't have admin holds often, I am confident that it allows our students to further develop empathy and compassion for others- a skill they already excel at!
Halloween Fashion Show
Tomorrow is the third annual Halloween Fashion Show at RJH. Students may wear a costume either for the day or just for the fashion show, which will be at 2:15 in the RJH gym. All students will attend the fashion show, which gives our community a chance to get together and celebrate! Masks may only be worn for the fashion show, and no weapons will be allowed, even if they are part of the costume.
While I know some folks may want to attend, our middle schoolers prefer if this is a students and staff only event. That way, the dreaded potential for inadvertent embarrassment by their family members will not be a factor... We will take great pictures and share them in next week's newsletter!
