Inclement Weather Procedures

Dear Cranford School Community,
I hope this message finds you well as we approach the midpoint of the school year. With snow appearing more frequently in the forecast this month, this is a good time to review the district’s procedures for school closures, delayed openings, and early dismissals.
When inclement weather occurs, please know that we make the most informed decisions possible based on the information available at the time. We consult with local safety partners, a professional weather service, and neighboring school districts to better understand the conditions they are experiencing. Several factors are carefully considered, including road conditions—both locally and in surrounding areas—as well as overall school readiness.
These decisions are rarely clear-cut and often must be made with evolving information. However, our priority is always the safety of our students and staff. While some decisions may ultimately feel right, others may not align perfectly with everyone’s expectations—but they are always made with safety at the forefront.
We aim to notify families and staff between 5:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. I recognize and empathize with the challenges that schedule changes can create, particularly when it comes to arranging childcare on short notice. Thank you for your patience and understanding when adjustments to a regularly scheduled school day are necessary.
Notifications
If a regularly scheduled school day is canceled, delayed, or dismissed early due to weather or other emergency conditions, updates will be shared on the district and school websites, through emergency text, email, and voice alerts, and on the district’s social media channels.
