A Message From Dr. Cannon
Happy Friday!
We have certainly been feeling the heat this week! ☀️ We’ve been doing our best to beat the heat at Bogan, making the most of our time indoors while still giving students opportunities to move, play, and enjoy their school day. Hopefully cooler weather is on the way!
Reminder: We do not have school on Monday, September 7th for Labor Day and Tuesday, September 8th for a staff Professional Development Day. We look forward to seeing all of our students back on Wednesday!
Have a great long weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Kirsten Cannon, Principal

September is Attendance Awareness Month!
Student attendance is crucial to your student's success here at school.
The state of Ohio defines chronic absenteeism as a student being absent for 10% of the year for both unexcused AND excused. In addition, the state looks at hours that a student has missed school- not just days. This mean that tardies in the morning and early dismissals in the afternoon contribute to chronic absenteeism.
If your family has a fun trip planned, we absolutely encourage you to go and make those memories!! Please just be mindful of other days that your student is absent.
We will send monthly letters home if your child has reached 10% or more absences. This is a way for us to proactively share information with you about your child's attendance.
Please know that we are here to help!! Do not hesitate reach out if you have any questions or need assistance!

Updated August 21, 2026
Hello parents and guardians and welcome back to a brand new school year!
I hope your summer was fun and restful. I don’t know about you, but I am so excited for the new school year and all of the growth that I know is going to happen in your students this year.
For those of you who are new to Bogan, let me introduce myself. My name is Heather Heidel and I am the School Counselor. My job is to support your student’s academic and social-emotional growth during their time in elementary school. This looks like many different things: whole group classroom lessons, individual support as needed, small groups, crisis management, referrals to outside supports, and anything else that sets your student up for success. You can reach me in two different ways:
Email: heidelh@talawanda.org
Phone: 513-273-3460
We will once again be doing Second Step lessons in the classroom. These every other week whole group lessons will focus on problem solving, learning to be a good friend, coping skills, and many other important social-emotional growth topics.
In addition to Second Step, I am hopeful to run some social-emotional learning groups where students will work with their peers to learn helpful skills to be successful both in and out of the classroom. I also have availability to do some short-term one on one support with your student if you believe they need someone to talk to. Some things I have done one on one support for before include anxiety, worry, family changes, and friend conflicts. I am always available for students when they need support and they know my office is a safe space if they need it.
If you are interested in your student receiving group or individual support this year, please complete THIS survey and I will be in touch with you regarding permissions forms and any other information needed.
Here’s to an amazing school year! I am so excited to meet your students! :)
