8th Grade Field Trip Survey for Parents/Guardians of 8th Graders
Parents/Guardians of 8th graders, please complete this survey about possible field trips for our 8th grade class. We have already surveyed the students. This survey is only for parents/guardians of current NRMS 8th graders. Nauset App Help Page
Families should download the Nauset App to receive school updates, alerts, and messages. Please note: some people have mistakenly downloaded the Thrillshare App instead. The Thrillshare App is for staff only and does not allow families to log in. To help, we have created the Nauset App Help Page on the district website under the Students and Families tab. This page includes written guides and short tutorials to walk you through downloading and using the app. Visit the page here: Nauset App Help Page

Nauset Rocks House Cup
Ask your student what House they represent: Hurricane, Tornado, Blizzard, or Tsunami. The competition has started!
Updates From The Principal
Hello NRMS Families,
Today we kicked off the Quest for the Nauset House Cup competition. Each House met with their 8th grade captains and began planning House spirit, handshakes, cheers, logo designs, mottos and more. We look forward to tracking the leaderboard as students earn points for their House by doing the right thing, living up to the Nauset ROCKS values, academic performance, participation in school events, and more. Let the games begin.
We have surveyed our 8th grade students about possible field trips for the 8th grade class. Now we would like to get input from parents/guardians of current 8th graders. If your child is in Grade 8, please complete this survey. We will need help with fundraising to keep costs down.
An additional way to support field trips and other special events at the middle school is to make a donation to the NRMS Education Foundation. You can visit the website at any time to make your donation. And, please shop at Friends Market in Orleans on Saturday October 4 as 11% of sales from that day will go to the NRMS Education Foundation. Thanks in advance for supporting our students, staff, and school community.
Next week is School Picture Days at the middle school. See information in this newsletter about the details for school photos.
Finally, I had the opportunity to attend the event at one of the local churches last weekend that discussed the book, The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt that I have shared with you. It is wonderful to see this conversation about the impacts of cell phones and social media on our students. Please consider reading the book and partnering with your child's parents to delay the purchase of smart phones and watches until high school and installing parental controls to restrict access to social media apps for the middle school years. Together we can do this! We can help our students have fewer distractions and impacts on their mental health. Please take whatever steps you are comfortable with in your home. One first step is restricting access to any technology overnight so that students get all of the sleep they need to be ready to learn at school. Check out the video above.
Enjoy the weekend and Happy Fall!
Peter Cohen, Ed.D.
Principal
