Covid information

Symptom Screening & Staying Home When Sick

  • Every day, all students and staff must be free of any of the following COVID-like symptoms in order to be in the District:

    • Fever of 100.4 F or greater or chills

    • Cough, if new

    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

    • Fatigue from unknown cause

    • Muscle or body aches from unknown cause

    • Headache (new and either moderate or severe)

    • New loss of taste or smell

    • Sore throat

    • Vomiting

    • Diarrhea

  • Parents will be responsible for screening their child before school, and by sending them to school, they will certify that the child is not experiencing any COVID symptoms.

  • Everyone will be encouraged to stay home if they are sick or symptomatic.

  • Expect to stay home at least five days from the onset of symptoms.

Diagnosed Cases & Isolation

  • Positive cases must isolate for at least five days.

    • The first day of isolation is the day AFTER whichever came first:

      • The start of symptoms.

      • The day the positive test sample was taken.

    • After five full days, isolation can end if the individual …

      • Has been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.

      • Is experiencing no other symptoms. (Note: Loss of taste and smell may persist for weeks or months after recovery and need not delay the end of isolation.)

  • Household members of positive cases are encouraged to isolate for five days unless they have already tested positive within the past 90 days and are showing no symptoms.

  • Anyone who tests positive for COVID must immediately notify the school.

  • Before returning to in-person instruction, students with diagnosed COVID cases must receive clearance from the school health offices and submit COVID-19 Isolation Completion Acknowledgement and Release Forms.

  • Students returning from isolation must …

    • Receive clearance from the school health office

    • Submit COVID-19 Isolation/Quarantine Completion Acknowledgement and Release Forms

    • Must for Days 6-10 …

      • Wear face coverings at all times: indoors, outdoors and when participating in extracurricular activities.

      • Eat their lunches separate from other students, in a location where 6 feet of social distance can be maintained while they are maskless.

Crossing streets south of Johnson School

Due to staff shortages, we are unable to provide a crossing guard at Briar & 2nd Avenue. We strongly recommend crossing at Ridgewood and 2nd Avenue where there are 4-way stop signs.

"Learning and Growing Together" logo

District 2 has a new motto: Learning & Growing Together.

That motto is just one part of the District's new, five-year strategic plan. The District also updated its mission and vision statements, beliefs, and strategic priorities.

Now it needs to develop a new logo to symbolize those ideals.

And it's looking for your help!

Please take our online poll and rank your favorite designs from among the options under consideration.

  • Click here to take the New BSD2 Logo Online Poll.

We'll share the results later this fall, and adopt a new logo later this school year!

Remote Learning

Due to ISBE regulations, remote learning is required for students under quarantine or who test positive for COVID. The district has purchased enough technology (OWLs) to adhere to these guidelines. Unfortunately, we do not have permanent remote access in all classrooms so remote access can not be made available for other illnesses, vacations, or other events that may take students away from school.

SHIELD Covid Testing

The SHIELD program will return this year in all three BSD2 schools. Enrollment is now open and all students and staff are invited to participate in the program.

Anyone who participated in the program last year must register again to participate this year.

Please note that new consent forms take a few weeks to process.
