General Exam Policies & Information
State vs. Teacher-Made Exams
Two types of exams are given at the end of a semester; state exams and teacher-made exams.
State exams are administered in certain core and CTE courses. They are listed in the chart below. State exams are required to be given in person from 8:05 am - 12:35 pm.
Teacher-made exams will be given during the regular class period on the assigned day for any class that does not have a state exam.

Remediation & Retesting | Opt-In is required this year!
Beginning this school year, if a student is not proficient on their first attempt at an End of Course (EOC) exam, parents must OPT-IN to retesting by returning a signed copy of the retest letter.
Students will bring home a copy of the parent opt-in letter on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Parent's wishing to their student to be able to retest an EOC must sign and return that letter to their child's teacher by Friday, May 15, 2026.
If your student is taking multiple EOC courses this semester, you may receive multiple copies of the letter. Only one letter is required to be returned and it will allow the student to retest in any course they are taking this Spring.
To preview the letter and/or print another copy, a digital copy of the Opt-In letter is linked HERE. The letter is available in both English (page 1) and Spanish (page 2).

State Exam - Test Day Expectations
- Students are not permitted to have access to any electronic device during the testing session. Electronic devices include, but are not limited to cell phones, smart watches, smart glasses, earbuds.
- Students will be asked to turn off all electronic devices in front of the test administrator and put the device in their book bag.
- All electronic devices must be off and placed in bookbags.
- Bookbags and any other personal belongings (including blankets) will be placed in the hallway for the duration of the testing session.
- Students are not permitted to wear hats or have hoods up during the testing session. Student's ears must be visible so the test administrator can verify they are not wearing earbuds.
Arrival on Exam Day
Normal school procedures for student parking, car rider dropoff, and bus transportation must be followed. Students may enter the building at 7:35 am. All students must report directly to their assigned testing location, provide their laptop to the test administrator for exam setup, and remain at that location. Students who are not in their testing location by 8:05 am may not be allowed to test if the testing session has started and will be assigned to make-up testing on an alternate date.
Breakfast & Lunch on Exam Day
Breakfast and lunch will be available. Breakfast will be served from 7:40 AM - 8:00 AM each morning in the cafeteria. Students may pick up breakfast and proceed to their assigned classroom for testing. They must finish breakfast before the test session begins as no food or drinks are allowed at student desks during testing. Test administrators in each testing location will be instructed as to when their students may go to the cafeteria to pick-up lunch.
Early Checkout During Exam Week
School will be dismissed at 3:10 pm on exam days. Bus transportation is provided as normal in the morning and afternoon. Student drivers and car riders (early check-outs and 3:10 pm dismissal) must exit by the media center. Students may not be picked up from other areas of the campus. Early check-outs are required to show their check-out pass to any staff requesting it; otherwise, they will not be allowed to leave campus. Bus riders will be dismissed at 3:10 pm from their assigned classrooms to the bus lot through the 1st-floor T-wing exit.

PHS 2026 Graduation - Important Information!
COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY TICKETS
- The number of tickets available to graduates is determined by the total number of
graduates and the number of seats available.
At this time, graduates are expected to receive 7 outdoor tickets and 2 indoor tickets.
- The appropriate ticket is required for entry. A blue/white outdoor ticket is required for an
outdoor ceremony. A cardinal red/white indoor ticket is required for an indoor ceremony.
Red tickets will not be accepted for the outdoor ceremony, and blue tickets will not be
accepted for an indoor ceremony.
- If the ceremony is moved inside due to inclement weather, the decision will be made prior
to graduation day.
- Infants who are not yet walkers may enter without a ticket but must be held by a guest.
All others need a ticket. Young children often struggle with sitting through a
commencement ceremony, so take that into consideration when planning.
- The ceremony will be livestreamed online. The link will be available on the Person County
Schools website.
