Student Attendance Reporting Through Parent Portal
Please Read this Important Update
Our new districtwide attendance reporting system will go live on the first day of school.
Through the Parent Portal, you will now be able to:
- Report your child’s attendance.
- View attendance data on an easy-to-read dashboard.
- View attendance notifications.
- View history of attendance and codes.
Please note:
- Doctor’s notes must still be submitted to your school’s attendance secretary.
- College & Career Visit Forms and Family Vacation Forms must continue to be submitted to the building principal. These absences can be entered into the Parent Portal, with physical documentation sent separately.
- Once your attendance report is received, you will automatically receive a confirmation email from the district.
- You can monitor your child’s absences and attendance codes directly in the Parent Portal.
Detailed instructions for entering attendance in the Parent Portal can be found here along with a video.
There is an update to the district’s Attendance Administrative Guideline regarding early dismissals and tardies, please review here. Reminder, families have a total of fifteen parent notes or combination of up to 5 family vacation days and ten parent notes per year.
If you have questions regarding your child’s attendance, please contact the attendance secretary at your child’s school. Thank you for your cooperation as we work to streamline attendance reporting across the district.

Student-Athletes Serving the Community
On August 18th, WC East Field Hockey hosted its annual Play Day. The Play Day is in memory of Maria Whitehead, a 1999 East graduate who went on to win a National Championship as a member of Wake Forest’s field hockey team in 2002. Sadly, Maria passed away in 2006 from melanoma. As a result of the team’s efforts, they were able to make a $500 donation to the Melanoma Research Foundation in Maria’s name. Thanks you players, coaches, and parents for keeping the tradition alive and supporting a good cause!
Cell Phones
Phone Use Prohibited During Class Time
Cell phone and ear bud use is not permitted during class time, from the start of the period until the end. Progressive consequences will be implemented for students who do not adhere to this rule. We are requesting your support in this endeavor. Please refrain from messaging your child during school hours.
Value System
East Excellence
We look forward to partnering with our families to promote East Excellence all year long, both in and out of school!
Student and Teacher Spotlight
Conrad and Mr. Patt
Conrad Kowalski, Class of 2027, represented East at convocation. He spoke about Adaptability and how it's important for students to exhibit flexibility, work cooperatively in a changing world, and respond productively to praise, criticism, and setbacks. He honored East chemistry teacher, Mr. Alex Patt. Conrad said that Mr. Patt taught him how to overcome challenges in chem class and instilled lessons that's he's been able to apply to all areas of his life. Thank you Conrad and Mr. Patt! You are both EAST EXCELLENT!

What to Know:
- Screenings will take place in the nurse’s office.
- All screenings will be done discreetly and respectfully to protect student privacy.
- Once completed, results will be available in your Parent Portal under the Health Screenings tab.
Reminders for Students - Parents & Guardians
We Need Your Help
Families, we are a team. Our staff appreciates your support when it comes to developing good habits. Please talk to your children about the following important topics.
Cell phones and ear buds are not permitted during class time. Exceptions are study hall, lunch, and Viking Block. Please refrain from calling or texting your child during the school day. Email is an appropriate way to relay messages to your child.
Laptops should be charged every night.
Attendance is critical for success. Help your child develop a schedule so they're on time every morning. Always leave a few extra minutes in the morning to account for traffic or anything unexpected.
Smile!
