Message from the Principal - Mrs. Haynes
Dear LES Parents and Families,
It’s hard to believe how quickly time is flying—we’re already entering our sixth week of school! What a whirlwind it’s been: fast-paced, full of energy, and deeply rewarding. From day one, we’ve hit the ground running, and it’s been nonstop ever since. One of the highlights so far was our vibrant Curriculum Night. It was wonderful to see so many of you there! Our teachers put a lot of thought and effort into planning these events, and your presence means the world to us. We truly appreciate your continued support.
As you may recall from my first newsletter, our theme this year is LEAD: Every Knight, Every Day. Our teachers and staff are deeply committed to helping every student reach their full potential. We understand that each child’s journey is unique—some may be on a one-year path to success, while others may need a multi-year approach. No matter the path, our educators are equipped with the data and tools to guide your child forward. For students on a longer trajectory, additional support at home can make a big difference. Through structured literacy and targeted instruction, we work to close gaps and accelerate growth. Please partner with us to ensure your child’s progress continues onward and upward.
Did you know that missing just two days of school means your child has already missed 10% of the school year? Every day counts. When students miss school, they miss valuable instruction. Please help us by ensuring your child is present and on time unless they are sick. Morning arrival includes Joyful Learning and Morning Meeting—essential parts of the day that help students settle in and prepare to learn. Right after announcements, we begin Knight Time, our intervention and extension block for reading and math. Some grade levels also have core instruction at the end of the day, which can be disrupted by early checkouts. Your support in keeping students at school all day is crucial.
We’re proud of the strong start to the year and the positive behavior we’re seeing schoolwide. If you receive a call about your child’s behavior, please take it seriously and have a conversation with them about school expectations. Our PreK and many Kindergarten students are still adjusting to school routines, and our teachers are experts at guiding them. For students in grades 1–5, we expect a solid understanding of schoolwide expectations. Our goal is always to keep students in class and learning, and your partnership helps us do just that.
I hope you’ve been receiving weekly newsletters from your child’s teacher. We are intentional about keeping families informed. If you haven’t seen one, please reach out—we don’t want you to miss a thing!
We love our LES students deeply. They are the heart of our school, and I’m incredibly proud of the care and dedication our teachers show every day. Our students are our top priority. Teaching and learning come second only to the safety and security of our staff and students. We are grateful for our families and community, and I look forward to seeing you throughout the year as we work together to LEAD: Every Knight, Every Day.
Sincerely,
Your Proud Principal
Candace Haynes
A Special Thank you to our PTA Board Members!
Thank you to all the parents who showed up to reinvigorate our PTA! We love our ACTIVE parents who support our school, our staff, and our students. Look at our FULL PTA board. They are actively seeking volunteers and participation from our parents and families.
Lunch Visitors!
Our students have become acclimated to being in school and following our cafeteria expectations. Due to limited space for visitors in our cafeteria, we are welcoming lunch visitors with photo ID on a rotating schedule by the student's last name.
Monday - A&B and U-Z
Tuesday - C-G
Wednesday - H-M
Thursday - N-T
Any deviation from the above assigned schedule must be approved by the grade level Assistant Principal at least 24 hours in advance when possible. Parents can call (770-963-1813) or email your grade level Assistant Principal with special circumstances.
At the end of lunch, parents should say goodbye to their children and proceed to the front desk for check-out. It is a violation of our school policy to accompany your child to the playground, classroom, or move around the building visiting other children in their classrooms.
The parent table is located in the center of the cafeteria. Due to limited seating, please refrain from sitting at your student’s class table. Only your student may accompany you at the parent table.
Fast food from outside vendors such as McDonalds, soda, and glass containers are not allowed in the lunchroom.
Store bought treats brought in for the class should be pre-arranged with your child’s teacher and may only be shared with your child’s class. No homemade items are allowed.
Ice cream is sold for $1. This may also be purchased as a class treat.
Please be aware of allergy restrictions in your child’s class when selecting treats. Please do not bring anything containing any type of nuts.
Lawrenceville ES will not supply or allow knives into the school building. Please pre-cut items or provide single-serve items.
Balloons, party favors, etc., are not permitted in the cafeteria.
Thank you very much for your help in supporting these expectations.

How does your child get home?
Please ensure that you are complying with our important safety policy as stated in our Parent Handbook. It is our goal that there are no transportation mistakes. For this reason, it is important that students have only ONE mode of transportation and the tag on the backpack should reflect this. Please limit transportation changes to emergencies only. By definition of the word emergency, these do not happen often. Thank you so much for your support as we work to maintain consistency in our procedures. The complete handbook is attached below should you ever need it.
Changes in Student Transportation - IMPORTANT
Transportation changes are not permissible without prior written notice from a parent/guardian. Only those listed as legal parent(s)/guardian(s) can make transportation changes. Please send a handwritten/signed note with your child if a transportation change is needed. Call the front office (770-963-1813) to verify that the note was received. To protect the safety and security of all students, transportation changes will not be accepted over the telephone, via email, fax, or text. We need to verify the identity of the individual making the request. Should an extreme emergency arise, the parent/legal guardian will need to come to the front office and speak with an administrator with their identification. ParentSquare direct messages will be accepted in the event of an emergency. Emergency changes will be dealt with on a case by case basis. Please refrain from making regular transportation changes. It is confusing for staff and students. Students should have one form of daily transportation.

Student Dress Code
- For safety reasons, it is very important that students wear tennis shoes to school. Even when not in PE, students are playing outside daily. Our goal is to avoid accidents, including trips and falls in the hallway. Please save the crocs, yeezys, slides, sandals, and similar shoes for wearing outside of school.
- Head coverings such as hats, caps, hoodies, satin night caps, scarves, bandanas, etc. should not be worn to school.
Student Check Out
We ask that you only check out students for in situations that are urgent. Please do not circumvent the regular dismissal process by checking out students on a daily or regular basis. Early checkouts disrupt classroom instruction. All students within the LES attendance zone have the option of riding the bus. If you are unable to retrieve your child from the car line, please allow your child to ride the bus.
Student Drop off
Student drop off should take place in the rear of the school from 8:20-8:50. Please ensure your child is at school on time. Breakfast, Joyful Learning, Morning Meeting, and Morning Announcements all take place prior to 9:00 am and are immediately followed by Knight Time, which consists of academic intervention schoolwide. Please ensure our students have the best start to their day by being on time. All students within the LES attendance zone have the option of riding the bus so that they are on time to school.
Is your child on permissive transfer?
We are pleased to welcome students to LES on a permissive transfer. This opportunity is extended with the understanding that strong attendance, positive behavior, and academic success are essential priorities. While we strive to support all students, please be aware that permissive transfers are contingent upon maintaining these standards. We kindly ask that you ensure your child arrives at school on time and is picked up promptly each day. Please note: Failure to maintain good attendance, behavior, and academic performance may result in the revocation of the permissive transfer at the end of the first quarter. We appreciate your partnership in helping your child succeed. Your support in reinforcing these expectations at home is invaluable.
From The Counselors' Corner
Hello LES family, the first month of school is now over and we are well on our way. With September being Attendance Awareness Month and the kick-off of our attendance program, L.E.A.Ders Popping Up Everywhere, we want to share a little information with you. To promote students coming to school EVERYDAY, it is important to establish a strong routine. It is recommended that school aged children (ages 6 to 13) go to bed between 8:00pm-9:00pm to ensure they get enough rest to have a productive day. When kids come to school tired it can impact their ability to learn. Georgia law states that it is mandatory that all school aged children are enrolled and attend a k-12 program.
With attendance being so important for students, here’s how we celebrate at LES:
Students will receive a LEAD buck daily for being at school. *LEAD bucks can be used for a variety of incentives.
At the end of the month, classes with the most days of perfect attendance for each grade level, will receive a treat.
At the end of the month, individual students with perfect attendance will receive an attendance sticker and their name will be placed on our Attendance L.E.A.Der board.
At the end of each semester, individual students with perfect attendance will be invited to an ice cream social.
Please talk to your student(s) about the importance of coming to school. Let’s work together to get them excited about learning and make a positive impact on attendance this school year!
-Your counselors,
Ms. Younger (k-2) & Mrs. Williams (3-5)
