MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Dear Syracuse High School Community,

It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces as we welcomed students back for the first week of the new semester. The energy in the building has been positive, and it has been great to reconnect after the break.

As we settle into the semester, we are reminded of what it truly means to be a Titan—working hard, supporting one another, and striving for growth. We encourage you to talk with your student about their academic goals for the semester and to reach out if there are ways we can better support them.

We also encourage all sophomores and juniors to attend school on Tuesday to participate in our ACT Practice Test. This is an important opportunity to build familiarity and confidence with the ACT. Please see the information below for additional details. (Seniors are Excused from School on Tuesday)

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We are excited for a great semester ahead.

Best,

Principal Chapple

PRACTICE ACT PRACTICE ACT

*Day-Of Information

Please have your student at the school at 7:15 to sign in and receive their room assignment. They need to bring their acceptable photo ID, and it is suggested to bring at least two #2 pencils with erasers, and an approved calculator (with extra batteries/backup). They can also bring snacks/water for breaks, a sweatshirt, and a non-noisy watch, but must keep all other electronics (phones, smartwatches) powered off and out of sight.

*Schedule Information

  • Monday, January 12

To accommodate testing logistics, we will follow an alternate A/B schedule, and students will attend all 8 class periods (See Attached Bell Schedule).

  • Tuesday, January 13

We will administer the ACT Practice Test.

    • All 10th and 11th grade students will participate in a timed, full-length ACT practice exam.
    • Seniors are excused from school on this day.

The ACT is a nationally recognized college entrance exam used by colleges and universities across the country as part of the admissions process. It is designed to measure students’ academic readiness in areas such as English, math, reading, and science, and serves as a strong indicator of college preparedness.

This practice exam provides students with:

  • Individual score reports
  • Clear insight into strengths and areas for growth
  • Targeted information to guide preparation before taking the official ACT
  • Authentic testing experience under real ACT conditions
  • After the exam, we invite students who normally receive accommodations to work with their case manager if they feel they will need them for their next ACT Exam.

*Testing Accommodations

If your student would like to use any accommodations for the state ACT, we will need a consent form filled out and signed by the student’s guardian. The forms are available in Ms. Moore's office in the student center, or you can find the form on act.org, or find the link here. Please have the forms filled out and returned by January 23rd.

The state ACT is for Juniors only, March 24th.
