Dear Doyon Families,
Another exciting week has come and gone at the Paul F. Doyon Memorial School! Students have been busy learning, exploring, and preparing for what may be one of our first significant snow events of the season. If the storm pans out, we hope you enjoy plenty of time outdoors this weekend. When students return to school next week, please be sure to pack snow gear for outdoor adventures. It’s always a joy to see the snowmen return to our playground!
On Thursday, we welcomed T.I.G.E.R back to Doyon! You may remember that last year this team of actors from Plymouth State University put on a fabulous performance teaching our students that "Kindness Counts". This year's performance was called "Calm Quest" and focused on our CARES skill of the month, self-control! Students learned strategies for managing worry, stress, and fear in order to feel more in control and confident! Thank you FRIES for supporting CARES education!
On Thursday evening, families joined us at Town Hall for an informative discussion about our PreKindergarten offerings. Families who are considering enrolling their three- or four-year-old child(ren) are encouraged to review the slidedeck attached below. If you have any questions or would like to learn more, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Further down in this message you'll find a survey about family workshops. Please take a peek and respond if you are comfortable. We are hoping to launch a variety of parent education offerings and we'd like to tailor these to experiences you are eager to learn about. Thank you for your time in completing this!
As always, please be in touch if you need anything. We are here to help and support in any way we can and are always just an email away. We truly value our partnership with families and appreciate the opportunity to work together in support of your child’s education.
Warmly,
Mr. Whitehouse-Mullen & Mrs. Benincasa
DEEP is piloting a before-school class!
We are excited to share a new program structure we will be piloting in DEEP! This fall, due to the number of slots available, we were not able to offer all interested students a spot in a DEEP class. With collaboration and support from a Doyon parent, we are excited to try something new.
This winter, we will be piloting a before-school DEEP class that will begin at 8:00 a.m. Our hope is that this new structure will allow us to expand access to DEEP programming for more students and families.
If this before-school DEEP option works well for families, we may consider offering it again in the spring.
Families of students who were unable to enroll in a fall DEEP class will be guaranteed a spot in this before-school DEEP pilot. If additional space is available, we will then open enrollment to other K–2 students. Registration closes on Sunday, January 25th at 9:00 p.m.
We are excited to explore this new opportunity and appreciate your continued support of our DEEP program!

Doyon CARES
S is for Self-Control!
During January, we are focusing on self-control. At Doyon, we define self-control as the ability to manage your thoughts, words, emotions, and actions.
Sharing our strategies for self-control with our children can help them "see" things that are sometimes invisible or hidden. What does self-control look like in your home? What do you do when you are working to manage your thoughts, words, emotions, and actions? Talking to our children about things that we do like taking deep breaths, listening to music, exercising, reading, taking a shower, etc. can help them "see" and understand that everyone works to manage their thoughts, words, emotions, and actions.
Library News!
We have some exciting library events coming up in February! The book fair, brought to you by the Book Shop of Beverly Farms, will run the week of February 2nd. If you are interested in volunteering for the book fair, please sign up here. On Monday, February 9th, author and illustrator, Juana Martinez-Neal will be visiting our school. Thank you to FRIES for supporting this program. More information about both events will be sent home in upcoming weeks.
The library will be open to students on Friday mornings from 8:00-8:40! Students can come to the library before school to read, draw, play with Legos, code, or work on a STEAM project. If your child would like to attend, please sign up below. Space is limited to 12 students per week.
Reach out to Teresa Hohenstein at thohenstein@ipsk12.net with any questions.
School Safety
Curious about school safety procedures? Take a peek at the documents displayed below. These documents are shared with students at the start of the school year by Detective Joe Perna, our School Resource Officer. The documents may serve as a guide to support families in discussing school safety. As always, please be in touch with questions around school safety at the Paul F. Doyon Memorial School.

Nurse's Notes
Hello Doyon Families!
We are seeing many viral illnesses here at Doyon, especially in kindergarten and third grades. These flu-like viruses are presenting with fevers and coughs with lasting fatigue; however, I also have reports of a tummy bug that presents with short-lived vomiting and no fevers. We continue to see scattered strep cases in the upper grades as well scattered confirmed flu cases in all grade levels. Remember that flu can present with abdominal pain/nausea/vomiting as well as fever, sore throat, headache, congestion/cough, body aches. The biggest thing to watch for is secondary infection, especially pneumonia.
Students may return when they are fever free for 24 hours without medication and generally feeling better. The COVID guidelines are similar: Students may return when fever free for 24 hours without Tylenol/Motrin and generally feeling better, plus it is recommended when they return to activity to take extra precautions for five days including: mask wearing, physical distancing when possible, and good hand/cough hygiene.
