Oak Grove Parent Connection
December 2024
A Note from Principal Akers
Hello!!! Happy December!! I remember telling you in the beginning of the year how quickly this year was going to fly by, and here we are already in December. It has been a wonderful school year and Oak Grove is such an amazing school!! Thank you for always supporting what we do at Oak Grove.
I know a letter was sent out about my extended leave. Yes, I’m still on extended leave for medical reasons, but I am doing well and cannot wait to get back to the best students and staff at Oak Grove. I want to sincerely thank Ms. Kathleen Chandler for being our interim principal in my absence. When I found out that Ms. Chandler was the one who was filling in for me, I felt such a sense of relief knowing Oak Grove would be in the very best hands.
I hope you and your families had the best Thanksgiving filled with quality time with your loved ones. I hope you all have a wonderful upcoming holiday season, and we will see you in the New Year.
Please make sure you are keeping up with the many dates of December from your child’s teacher. December is always a very busy month filled with so much joy and wonder!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Akers
A Note from our Interim Principal Mrs. Chandler
It is my pleasure to serve as interim principal for the students, staff, and parents of the Oak Grove community! It has been heartwarming these past three weeks getting to know all the students and teachers. I look forward to continuing building relationships and supporting everyone at Oak Grove.
I wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving and look forward to working together in December!
Warm Wishes,
Kathleen Chandler
Note from our Parent Engagement Facilitator
We are thrilled to share that our Read Like an Eagle event was tremendously successful! Parents, students, and teachers celebrated literacy, engaging in various activities that made reading fun and interactive—a special thank you to our dedicated ESOL teachers for their invaluable support. Parents also took home activities to continue practicing literacy skills with their children.
We wish everyone a joyous holiday season as we approach the December break. Enjoy the time with your loved ones, and we look forward to seeing you in the new year!
Please contact me for parent resources you can check out and use to practice reading and math at home during the break.
Happy Holidays! 🎉📚🎄

From our Art Teacher Ms. Lammers
With all the extra days off during the holidays, this is a great time to spend with your child creating art.
Here are a couple of ways you can encourage your child at home.
-Find art all around you in your daily life, such as taking a walk, looking through books at home or the library, or visiting a museum.
-Give your child a small place to create art. This is a small area they can go to where they know supplies will be there.
Create art with your child. Numerous resources are available online, or you can simply draw objects from around your home.
-Compliment your child’s artwork and ask them to tell you more about their masterpiece.
